We are looking for a motivated and enthusiastic Assistant Accountant Apprentice to support the Finance and Accounts team with the day-to-day running of the finance function. Full training will be provided, giving the successful candidate the opportunity to gain valuable hands‑on experience.
Wage: £16,640 a year
Hours: Monday to Friday, 08.30-17.00. 40 hours a week
Start date: Monday 6 July 2026
Duration: 1 year 7 months

What you’ll do at work:
- Supporting month‑end duties by assisting with updating and reconciling the financial ledgers
- Prepare and post authorised journals to the nominal ledger
- Assist the Management Accountant to prepare forecast and budgetary information
- Prepare a monthly cost analysis of various overhead costs
- Input purchase ledger invoices, credit notes and debit notes into the finance system
- Match supplier invoices to purchase orders and delivery notes
- Approve authorised invoices, credit notes and debit notes for payment
- Run month‑end and mid‑month payment runs for approval
- Reconcile supplier balances with supplier statements
- Set up new accounts and amend existing accounts on the sales and purchase ledgers
- General administration duties, including filing and sending emails
- Support Credit Control and chase late payments
- Monitor daily communications and answer queries via email and telephone
- Post and record cash received on the sales ledger
- Carry out any other duties as required by the Management Accountant

What you’ll learn:
- Assist with the investigation and response to financial information queries.
- Record and analyse financial data using the organisation’s standard tools and processes.
- Apply double entry bookkeeping and accounting standards to process financial documents, generate financial statements and report financial information to users of accounts.
- Assist with the production of accurate financial information for the preparation of accounts.
- Reconcile financial data, such as preparing or reviewing reconciliations.
- Investigate, resolve or escalate transactional queries and errors within their remit as appropriate.
- Develop and maintain effective working relationships with stakeholders.
- Communicate financial information in a way that non‑finance stakeholders can interpret and understand.
- Utilise digital skills to present key financial information using finance and accounting software and applications.
- Use software packages to assist with basic accounting tasks in line with cyber and data security requirements, using data securely and safely, including backing up data.
- Communicate using varying approaches and different media methods with an appreciation of the risks and benefits to the business of social media and other digital applications.
