Work: Most of your apprenticeship is spent working. You’ll learn on the job by getting hands-on experience.
What you’ll do at work: As a Business Analyst (Norwich or York), you’ll help uncover what customers really need and work with teams to deliver practical solutions that make a real difference. You’ll ask insightful questions, challenge assumptions and explore new perspectives to maximise opportunities for improvement. Whether that’s analysing data, solving problems, removing blockers, or shaping smarter ways of working, you’ll help us do things better: for our customers, our business, and your own development.
Where you’ll work: You can select which locations you want to apply for in your application on Find an apprenticeship. Locations include Surrey Street Norwich, NR1, BS34 8SW and Wellington Row, York, YO90 1WR.
Training: Apprenticeships include time away from working for specialist training. You’ll study to gain professional knowledge and skills.

What you’ll learn:
- Apply appropriate approaches to scope, plan and perform Business Analysis
- Communicate effectively in a variety of situations with a range of stakeholders
- Apply a range of structured investigation techniques to a business situation
- Produce an outline definition of a business situation using an appropriate technique
- Apply appropriate techniques to identify problems and opportunities within a business situation
- Support the identification and presentation of proposed actions to stakeholders in order to gain agreement for further analysis activity
- Apply appropriate techniques to analyse and document options and recommendations for change
- Elicit process information from stakeholders
- Model business processes using relevant techniques, standards, notation and software tools
- Analyse business process models to identify opportunities for improvement
- Produce models of redesigned business processes
- Elicit requirements from stakeholders to identify business and user needs
- Document clear functional and non-functional requirements in line with local standards
- Analyse documented requirements to remove duplication, conflict and overlap
- Prioritise requirements using an appropriate prioritisation approach
- Validate requirements with stakeholders
- Support the establishment of requirements traceability
- Elicit business data needs from relevant sources
- Support the development of simple data models using relevant techniques, standards, notation and software tools
- Document current business situations to enable gap analysis and decision making
- Support the development of models of future state business situations
- Identify key differences between current and future business situations
- Identify actions required to move from the current to future business situation
- Define acceptance criteria for business and system changes
- Support business acceptance of business and system changes
- Apply relevant techniques to research and identify stakeholders
- Analyse and document stakeholders' areas of interest and influence
- Support the development of cost/benefit analysis for proposed business changes
- Evaluate and document the key impacts on people, process, organisation, technology and information
- Present information in a manner appropriate to the audience
Training schedule: During your first 18-22 months (depending on your studies), you’ll spend around 80% of your time gaining hands-on experience and 20% studying for your Apprenticeship qualifications. You’ll also have a structured learning programme, including additional professional qualifications, giving you a solid foundation to build and succeed in your career.
Requirements:
- Essential qualifications: GCSE in English (grade C), Maths (grade C); A Level in any 3 subjects (grade B, C, C or above (or equiv))
- Skills: Communication skills, Attention to detail, Problem solving skills, Analytical skills
- Other requirements: At least three A-Levels at grades B, C, C or above (England) or at least 4 Highers at grades B, B, B, C or above (Scotland) or equivalent Level 3 qualifications; have at least five GCSEs or (Scottish National 5s) at A*-C grade or 9-4 (or equivalent), including English and Maths
To be eligible for an Apprenticeship, you’ll also need to:
- Be available for full-time work from 7 September 2026 when all our apprentice roles start
- Have lived in the UK or European Economic Area (EEA) for at least three years by the start of the apprenticeship in September 2026
- Be eligible to work full-time in the UK for the entire duration of the apprenticeship and beyond
- Be able to spend at least 50% of your working hours in England over the duration of the apprenticeship.
