Most of your apprenticeship is spent working. You will learn on the job by getting hands-on experience.
What you will do at work:
- Work predominantly in our busy audit team and be trained across a number of disciplines.
- Prepare accounts for limited companies, sole traders, and partnerships.
- Assist on the audit of financial statements for limited companies and other specialist entities.
- Be exposed to a variety of areas such as VAT, personal tax, corporation tax, and work on ad-hoc tasks across our busy department.
- Assist other members of our team in the successful running of the office and provide a high standard of service to our clients.

What you will learn:
- Assist with the investigation and response to financial information queries.
- Record and analyse financial data using the organisation's standard tools and processes.
- Apply double entry bookkeeping and accounting standards to process financial documents, generate financial statements, and report financial information to users of accounts.
- Assist with the production of accurate financial information for the preparation of accounts.
- Reconcile financial data, such as preparation of reconciliations or review of reconciliations.
- Investigate, resolve, or escalate transactional queries and errors within their remit as appropriate.
- Develop and maintain effective working relationships with stakeholders.
- Communicate financial information in a way that non-finance stakeholders can interpret and understand.
- Utilise digital skills to present key financial information using finance and accounting software and applications.
- Use software packages to assist with basic accounting tasks in line with cyber and data security requirements, using data securely and safely, including backing up data.
- Communicate using varying approaches and different media methods with an appreciation of the risks and benefits to the business of social media and other digital applications.
Training schedule: Alongside your normal duties, you will also be granted day release to study towards the AAT qualification. Starting at Level 2, you will progress through Level 3 and Level 4 to become AAT qualified within 3 years. On the successful completion of your AAT qualification, you will then be enrolled onto the ACCA or ACA qualification and spend a further 3 years studying, at which time you will achieve your dreams of becoming a chartered accountant.

Essential qualifications: GCSE in Maths & English (grade 9-4)
Desirable qualifications: A Level in A-levels (grade A-C). Share if you have other relevant qualifications and industry experience. The apprenticeship can be adjusted to reflect what you already know.

About this employer: AMS is a fast-growing accountancy practice currently ranked number 55 in the UK with aims to be a top 40 firm in the next three years. We are looking for talented individuals to join us on our exciting journey. Based in our Manchester head office, you will attend college for "off the job" training and be allocated a dedicated mentor to support you in your "on the job" training.
After this apprenticeship: Progress on to ACA or ACCA qualification which takes a further 3 years. On completion of the six years, a successful candidate will progress to a qualified accountant and onto our junior management programme.
