Kick-start your career in Finance with Cory at our Riverside Energy from Waste site in Belvedere, South East London, combining hands‑on experience and college learning to build in‑demand skills and a rewarding future.

Wage: £18,000 a year

Training course: Accounts or Finance Assistant (Level 2)

Hours: 37.5 hour week, Monday to Friday, typically 09:00 to 17:30, with flexibility to work different times. When at college, training times are Monday – Friday, 09:00 – 17:00, making 37 hours 30 minutes a week.

Start date: Tuesday 1 September 2026

Duration: 1 year 3 months

Work: Most of your apprenticeship is spent working. You'll learn on the job by getting hands‑on experience.

What you’ll do at work:

  • Process supplier invoices and support payments
  • Raise customer invoices and help manage incoming payments
  • Enter and maintain accurate financial data in company systems
  • Support accounts payable and receivable activities
  • Assist with checking figures and reconciling financial records
  • Help prepare basic reports and support month‑end processes
  • Respond to finance queries and work with different teams
  • Gain an understanding of the wider finance functions and why they’re important to a business

Where you’ll work: Cory Riverside Energy from Waste Facility, Norman Road, Belvedere, DA17 6JY

Training: Apprenticeships include time away from working for specialist training. You’ll study to gain professional knowledge and skills. Training provider: London South East Colleges

What you’ll learn:

  • Record transactional data.
  • Use the organisation’s standard tools and processes to examine data to identify transactional issues such as reconciliations and inconsistencies between invoices.
  • Recognise and rectify routine errors, escalating as necessary.
  • Plan and review accounting and finance tasks.
  • Communicate with stakeholders to deliver accurate and timely results, avoiding jargon, using language tailored to the audience and different media methods with an appreciation of the risks and benefits to the business of social media and other digital applications.
  • Use finance and accounting software packages to accurately input and manage data to contribute to routine accounting tasks.
  • Handle data and digital technology in line with cyber and data security requirements, using data securely and safely, including backing up data.

Training schedule: The apprentice will complete the Level 2 Accounts/Finance Assistant apprenticeship with London South East College, working towards a nationally recognised qualification in accounting. Training is delivered through a blended model, with one day per week spent in college (on campus or online) and the rest of the time working at Cory to gain practical, on‑the‑job experience. Throughout the programme, the apprentice will build a portfolio of evidence and complete regular reviews to track progress and development. As an apprentice, you will work towards the AAT Level 2 Certificate in Accounting qualification.

Requirements:

  • Essential qualifications: GCSE in English Language (grade 4), GCSE in Mathematics (grade 4)
  • Share if you have other relevant qualifications and industry experience. The apprenticeship can be adjusted to reflect what you already know.

After this apprenticeship: On completion of the apprenticeship, we anticipate that the apprentice will continue their learning with a Level 3 course. The successful candidate will continue to work within the Cory Finance function in the Accounts Payable team and will gain additional experience of the Finance functions in Cory.
