This is a hands-on apprenticeship role supporting the finance function as it is built and scaled from the ground up.

Work: Most of your apprenticeship is spent working. You will learn on the job by getting hands-on experience.
What you’ll do at work: Working under the direction of the Group Financial Controller, and alongside the Co-CEOs and clinic teams, you will help maintain accurate financial records, prepare timely reporting for the parent company and individual clinics, and develop the technical and professional skills set out in the Level 4 Professional Accounting Technician apprenticeship standard. The role combines paid work with structured off-the-job training and study towards a professional accounting qualification. You will be given real responsibility from the outset, with supervision and review appropriate to your stage of training, and you will be expected to demonstrate the duties and behaviours required to achieve the apprenticeship's learning outcomes.
MAIN RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Collate, complete and maintain financial and accounting records from a range of sources
- Prepare and maintain timely and accurate financial reporting often to tight deadlines
- Undertake monthly and year-end reporting of financial and accounts information for the parent company and individual clinics
- Maintain the bookkeeping in Xero, including sales and purchase ledgers, bank reconciliations and journals
- Assist with the preparation and submission of VAT returns (incl. partial VAT) and support the monthly payroll process
- Co-ordinate accounting and finance input from colleagues and peers across the group and clinic teams
- Help to identify key accounting risks and assist in designing and implementing strategies to mitigate them
- Communicate and present accurate and timely data to stakeholders, on a regular and ad hoc basis, using an appropriate channel to meet deadlines
- Use financial digital and technology systems and processes to support the delivery of accurate and timely financial and accounting information
- Deliver accounting activities taking account of confidentiality, reputational risk and data security
- Collaborate with people internally and externally at appropriate levels to deliver a service that meets customers' needs, with a commitment to professional and ethical standards
- Consult stakeholders to inform important business decisions and make recommendations to key stakeholders
- Provide support to the finance team on budgeting, cash flow monitoring, Board and investor reporting packs, and post-acquisition integration
- Undertake any additional duties on an ad-hoc basis

- Collate and analyse financial information, and show how that information can be used most effectively to support value creation within an organisation.
- Apply accounting principles and adhere to legislation to ensure records are accurate and compliant with law or company policy when delivering accounting activities.
- Apply professional scepticism when undertaking accounting activities to inform and evaluate decision making on the content of true and fair accounts.
- Interpret financial information for accounting purposes, such as using judgement to determine the correct way to report or account for transactions.
- Participate in or support others with quality improvement activities.
- Use software packages to assist with accounting tasks in line with cyber and data security requirements.
- Deliver accounting tasks with a critical eye to transactions and trends.
- Use workload management principles to plan, organise and prioritise own tasks, and manage time effectively.
- Use accounting information to add value to the organisation through use of data visualisations, analysis and interpretation.
- Communicate accounting information through a variety of media to enable key stakeholders to understand what is required.
- Build and maintain collaborative, professional relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
Requirements:
- Essential qualifications: GCSE in English and Maths (grade 4/C or above), Level 3 Qualification in Accounts/practical bookkeeping or finance experience (grade Level 3 or Equivalent)
- Skills: Communication skills, Organisation skills, Confident using Excel, Written communication skills
- Other requirements: Sound working knowledge of double-entry bookkeeping and the month-end process, Confident using Excel and comfortable learning finance systems such as Xero, Accurate and methodical, Strong written and verbal communication skills, Discreet and trustworthy in handling confidential financial and personal data.
The following would be desirable and advantageous to have experience in:
- Exposure to a multi-site or multi-entity business
- Exposure to a start-up or fast-growing environment
- Prior use of Xero or a comparable cloud accounting package
- Any exposure to VAT returns, including partial exemption, or to a healthcare, medical or mixed-supply environment
- Proactive, solutions-oriented, and motivated by helping build structure in a scaling business.
