Summary
We are looking for an enthusiastic and hardworking apprentice to support our team. As workloads fluctuate, we need someone who can work flexibly with us and our clients. This is a fantastic opportunity to gain hands-on experience in a busy accountancy practice while studying towards your AAT qualification.

Wage
£11,778 for your first year, then could increase depending on your age

Work
Most of your apprenticeship is spent working. You\’ll learn on the job by getting hands-on experience.

What you\’ll do at work

  • Bookkeeping – Recording financial transactions (sales, purchases, receipts, and payments)- Maintaining accurate ledgers and reconciling bank statements
  • Assisting with Accounts Preparation- Supporting in the preparation of monthly, quarterly, and annual accounts. Helping with balance sheets, profit & loss statements, and other financial reports
  • Invoice and Expense Management – Processing supplier invoices and staff expenses. Raising client invoices and tracking payments
  • VAT Returns and Tax Support – Assisting in preparing VAT returns, Learning about tax codes, payroll taxes, and corporate tax basics
  • Payroll Support – Helping with payroll processing and reporting, Ensuring accuracy of timesheets and employee records
  • Administrative Tasks- Filing, data entry, and maintaining financial records. Managing spreadsheets and using accounting software (like Sage, Xero, QuickBooks)
  • Learning and Development – Studying towards AAT Level 3, Attending training sessions, reviewing materials, and shadowing senior accountants
  • Client Communication (if in a practice)- Responding to client queries with support from supervisors- Assisting with onboarding new clients and gathering documentation

What you\’ll learn

  • Assist with the investigation and response to financial information queries.
  • Record and analyse financial data using the organisation\’s standard tools and processes.
  • Apply double entry bookkeeping and accounting standards to process financial documents, generate financial statements and report financial information to users of accounts.
  • Assist with production of accurate financial information for the preparation of accounts.
  • Reconcile financial data, such as, preparation of reconciliations or review of reconciliations.
  • Investigate, resolve or escalate transactional queries and errors within their remit as appropriate.
  • Develop and maintain effective working relationships with stakeholders.
  • Communicate financial information in a way that non-finance stakeholders can interpret and understand.
  • Utilise digital skills to present key financial information using finance and accounting software and applications.
  • Use software packages to assist with basic accounting tasks in line with cyber and data security requirements, using data securely and safely, including backing up data.
  • Communicate using varying approaches and different media methods with an appreciation of the risks and benefits to the business of social media and other digital applications.

Your training plan

  • We have partnered with Mindful Education to deliver this apprenticeship through our Online and On Campus model
  • Apprentices will attend Boston College weekly as well as study online materials during allotted time at work on alternating weeks

Online lessons can be accessed at any time, using a mobile, tablet or desktop – meaning apprentices can fit their study around work commitments, minimising disruption in the workplace.
