Overview
Job Role: Mechanical Engineer (Maintenance Plumber) – Location: HMP Springhill. Salary: £41,818.21 + 5% salary increase in recognition of shift and weekend working. Contract: Full Time – Perm.
We are seeking a dedicated Mechanical Engineer to join our team at HMP Springhill, a category D male prison. We are a Ministry of Justice business providing critical and time-bound services to HMPPS, and we are looking for a Mechanical Engineer with a combination of experience and qualifications as described below.
Responsibilities
- Contribute to the safe and secure operation of facilities by maintaining and servicing mechanical and plumbing systems in a prison environment.
- Collaborate with Plumbers, Electricians, Carpenters, Painters, Cleaners, and Administrators to deliver effective facilities maintenance.
- Work to relevant health and safety requirements and ensure compliance with Water Supply Regulation and Control of Legionella L8 requirements.
- Support and participate in ongoing safety and security-focused maintenance activities to protect prisoners, staff, and visitors.
Qualifications
- Two years’ experience in a role as a plumber or equivalent.
- Familiar with Water Supply Regulation and Control of Legionella L8 requirements.
- Experience working on commercial or industrial heating and water systems.
- Good working knowledge of relevant health and safety requirements.
- Plumber qualified to C&G 6035 (Plumbing), C&G 6189 (Plumbing and heating) and NVQ level 3 in Plumbing or equivalent.
- Good Health & Safety knowledge; excellent organisational, time management and people skills.

Future Plans
