The Government Economic Service (GES) offers the opportunity to spend a year collaborating with experienced economists in a government department before returning to your studies.   • Mid-January 2026 – Candidates are informed of interview outcome and successful candidates assigned to a government department.

To be eligible, you must:

  • Be in your penultimate year of undergraduate study.
  • Be on course for a 2:1 or 1st class outcome.
  • Be studying an undergraduate honours degree in economics, or a related field with at least 50% economics content.
  • Have studied both macroeconomics and microeconomics.
  • Meet the Civil Service Nationality Rules.
  • Have the right to live and work in the UK without employer sponsorship.
