Home Office Digital, Data and Technology builds and runs services at huge national scale, supporting millions of visa and passport applications each year, checks across border crossings, and critical policing systems. As a Performance Analyst, you'll help teams understand what's working, what isn't, and where to focus next, using evidence to drive continuous improvement across live digital services.
About the role
You'll be part of a supportive Performance Analysis team working with product managers, delivery teams and stakeholders to embed a continuous improvement approach into live services. This isn't about producing static reports, it's about using performance data to identify trends, spot opportunities, and help teams agree priorities that lead to meaningful change. You'll help design dashboards and reports, bring together multiple data sources, and create clear analytical narratives that support decision-making. With guidance from more experienced analysts, you'll build confidence in the tools and techniques used across the Government Digital and Data profession, and you'll also contribute to the wider community, including mentoring and knowledge sharing.
What you'll be doing
- Develop performance metrics and KPIs that link service objectives, user needs and outcomes
- Build dashboards and in-depth reporting that helps teams make better decisions
- Collect, clean and interpret data to produce meaningful, actionable insight
- Identify trends and opportunities to improve live service performance
- Track user behaviour and help teams refine services iteratively
- Combine multiple data sources to tell a clear story, not just present numbers
- Work closely with delivery teams to embed a sustainable improvement cycle
- Share learning with colleagues and contribute to the Performance Analysis community
What we're looking for
- A genuine interest in performance analysis and improving digital services using evidence
- Experience (or developing capability) in handling and analysing data securely to generate insight
- Ability to identify appropriate data sources and sense-check accuracy and quality
- Confidence choosing suitable metrics and analytical techniques with support from colleagues
- Strong communication skills, able to explain findings and recommendations clearly to different audiences
- Interest or experience in digital analytics tools such as Google Analytics and Matomo
- Collaborative mindset, comfortable working with product and delivery teams to agree priorities
- A proactive approach to problem-solving and continuous improvement (desirable)
