High Grade Messaging (HGM) forms part of the team structure providing 24/7/365 service delivery, to a select customer base within the UK and overseas. As an Infrastructure Engineer in HGM, you'll be working in a team of IT infrastructure specialists and engineers, supporting and maintaining IT infrastructure solutions and services. You'll ensure services are delivered and used as required and work with, and support, third parties, to provide an IT infrastructure service. High Grade Messaging is being replaced by Military Messaging, with service Transition work already underway.

Responsibilities:

  • Liaise with customers and industry experts to scope project requirements.
  • Assist in the technical assurance of in-service MOD communication networks to customers across the MOD, other Government Departments and foreign allies.
  • Conduct fault-finding, performance analysis and problem resolution for secure networks.
  • Provide technical support to Messaging customers, including maritime and mobile units, at various locations.
  • Develop and deploy bespoke Communication Information Systems (CIS) solutions.
  • Create and maintain project documentation following business processes and assist with the administration of the department.
  • Maintain a Continual Professional Development record and identify opportunities to sustain technical currency in network infrastructure engineering.

Person specification:

You'll have working knowledge of information security and security controls and of providing technical assurance to customers. This role would suit individuals with experience in IT service delivery, IT second line support and knowledge of IT networks.

To be successful in this role, you'll need:

  • Experience of supporting a busy and diverse team and able to multitask and prioritise when faced with competing deadlines.
  • The ability to build and maintain strong working relationships.
  • Great communication skills, both verbal and written.
  • Ability to quickly assess information and make credible recommendations at pace.

We have fantastic learning and development programmes to gain externally recognised qualifications and if not held already, opportunity may be provided to gain the following when in post: ITIL v4.

Additional details:

A full UK driving licence is essential, due to regular travel between Defence sites, many of which are remote and not easily accessible via public transport. There will be a requirement to attend other Defence sites in the UK (or potentially occasional overseas visits) during this role. There may also be a requirement for travel to meetings or to attend training courses at other locations. This job role is not suitable for hybrid working. If not already held, the successful candidate will be required to attain DV clearance. Please note this position is open to sole UK Nationals only. As the post holder will have access to very sensitive information, there are limitations on travelling to a small number of countries and we will undertake additional security checks as part of the recruitment process. Applications from candidates with close connections to certain countries may take considerably longer to process, or in some cases result in a withdrawal of an offer of employment.
