Job description

As an M365 Engineer, you will play a vital role in supporting the DVLA's digital workplace by providing technical expertise across the full Microsoft 365 ecosystem. You will maintain, optimise, and enhance key Microsoft 365 services including Exchange Online, SharePoint Online, Teams, OneDrive, Defender, Purview, Power Platform, and the M365 wider suite. Your work will help ensure these services remain secure, scalable, and aligned with the needs of the organisation.

A key part of the role involves using PowerShell to automate routine tasks, streamline administration, and improve the efficiency and consistency of M365 operations. The role focuses on technical support, administration, and solution enablement, empowering teams across the organisation to make effective use of Microsoft 365 tools. You will work closely with business areas, including our Strategy and Policy teams, to ensure staff have the reliable, well-managed platforms needed to deliver engaging, collaborative, and efficient digital workplace experiences.

Your responsibilities will include, but aren’t limited to:

  • Ensure services are delivered and used as required.
  • Work with and support colleagues to provide infrastructure services.

To be successful in this role you will need to have the following experience:

  • Strong Troubleshooting & Analytical Skills.
  • Works confidently with other teams and builds strong rapport.
  • Comfortable with gathering accurate requirements and engaging with stakeholders.

Working hours, office attendance and travel requirements:

This role is full time only. Full time roles at DVLA consist of 37 hours per week. Applicants who wish to work an alternative pattern are welcome to apply however your preferred working pattern may not be available, and you should discuss this with the vacancy holder before applying. This role is suitable for hybrid working, which is a non-contractual arrangement where a combination of workplace and home-based working can be accommodated subject to business requirements. The expectation at present is a minimum of 60% of your working time a month will be spent at either your designated workplace or, when required for business reasons, in another office/work location. There may be occasions where you are required to attend above the minimum expectation.
