HMRC’s Fraud Investigation Service (FIS) handles civil and criminal investigations, enforcing compliance policies across taxes and duties, including offshore evasion, smuggling, export controls, labour abuses, and frauds.

FIS employs professionals from diverse backgrounds, such as accountants, cybercrime specialists, and criminal justice experts. We use various powers and approaches to protect funding and target serious tax evasion and crime.

Within FIS, Covert Operations, Digital Exploitation (CODE) collaborates with law enforcement and government, providing investigative tools and technology to combat complex tax crimes.

Job Description

As a member of the HMRC Fraud Investigation Service, CDII, you will:

  1. Work in a team of infrastructure specialists and engineers, ensuring services are integrated, delivered, and operated effectively.
  2. Manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment, supporting services and project delivery.
  3. Collaborate with a skilled team, sharing ideas and working independently when needed.
  4. Participate in planning, designing, maintaining, and improving FIS Infrastructure services and technologies.
  5. Support third parties and work with technical architects to translate designs into operations, providing documentation.
  6. Diagnose and troubleshoot technical problems across various technologies.

Person Specification

Essential Criteria

  • Knowledge or exposure to virtualization technologies.
  • Experience with Microsoft Windows domains and services (A/D, GPOs, trusts, DNS, DHCP, PKI).
  • Experience supporting infrastructure technologies, including hardware, networking, storage, and software.
  • Familiarity with scripting or programming languages (PowerShell, Python, TypeScript).
  • Interest or knowledge of public cloud technologies.
  • Ability to analyze and diagnose technical issues, with awareness of information security practices.

Desirable Criteria

  • Degree or equivalent in IT or related field, or practical experience.
  • Certifications like MCSE, CCNA, SAA-C03, CompTIA A+.
  • Knowledge of VMWare vSphere, Horizon, Cisco ACI, NXOS, Fortigate firewalls, and ITIL standards.
  • Experience with DevOps, CI/CD tools, programming/IaC languages, and project management tools.

Flexibility Payment

This role includes a Level 2 Flexibility Payment, which supports adaptable working patterns, including on-call duties, additional hours, weekends, and holidays. Acceptance of this payment implies agreement to these conditions. Payments are reviewed annually and may be adjusted.

Technical Skills

Technical skills will be assessed through tests and questions during the selection process.
