This is an NVQ Level 3 Plumber role within GFSL’s Facilities Maintenance Team at a CATEGORY C/ YOI & Male PRISON, focused on safe and secure operation and rehabilitation goals. Join a team that works Monday to Friday (including on call) to create a supportive environment. The team acts to keep the facility functioning like a heart that pumps blood, with every action impacting prisoners, staff, visitors, and the wider community. The role offers opportunities to work alongside Plumbers, Electricians, Carpenters, Painters, Cleaners, Administrators and other colleagues dedicated to a positive difference in safety and security.
Responsibilities
- Carry out mechanical engineering duties within the Facilities Maintenance Team to support safe and secure operation of the prison estate.
- Collaborate with trades colleagues (plumbers, electricians, etc.) to maintain heating, water, and building service systems.
- Undertake planned preventive maintenance and respond to operational issues as required, ensuring compliance with health and safety standards.
- Work in accordance with Water Regulations and Control of Legionella (L8) requirements and related safety guidelines.
- Contribute to a safe environment for prisoners, staff and visitors and support the organisation’s rehabilitation and positive change objectives.
- Participate in on-call arrangements as part of a Monday–Friday schedule.
Qualifications
- NVQ Level 3 or equivalent in one of the listed qualifications, and experience as a plumber or in a related role:
- C&G 6189 Plumbing and domestic heating
- C&G 5962 certificate in Plumbing (Advanced craft)
- C&G 6019 Mechanical Engineering services (plumbing)
- C&G 6018 Heating and ventilation installation
- C&G 6129 certificate in Plumbing
- C&G 214 Engineering systems maintenance
- C&G 6188 Heating and ventilating
- C&G 6088 certificate in heating and ventilating
- C&G 6032 the advanced craft certificate in plumbing
- EAL Diploma in Plumbing and Heating
