Location: HMP Rochester, 1 Fort Rd, Rochester ME1 3QS

Salary: £41,818.21

Contract: Full Time, Permanent

We are seeking a dedicated Mechanical Engineer to join our team at HMP Rochester, a Cat C Men\’s prison.

HMP Rochester operates as a self-contained city, requiring hundreds of staff to keep it functioning. Our Facilities Maintenance Team is committed to ensuring smooth and safe operations, impacting prisoners, staff, visitors, and the wider community.

As a Mechanical Engineer, you will work alongside experienced colleagues including Plumbers, Electricians, Carpenters, Painters, Cleaners, and Administrators, all dedicated to making a positive difference and providing a secure environment.

We are a Ministry of Justice business providing critical services to HMPPS. The role requires a Mechanical Engineer with a combination of the following experience:

  • Two years\’ experience as a plumber or equivalent
  • Knowledge of Water Supply Regulation and Legionella L8 requirements
  • Experience with commercial or industrial heating and water systems
  • Understanding of health and safety requirements
  • Plumber qualification to C&G 6035, C&G 6189, and NVQ level 3 in Plumbing or equivalent
  • Good health and safety knowledge
  • Excellent organizational, time management, and interpersonal skills
