Location: HMP Chelmsford

Salary: £38,333.37

Contract: Full-time/Permanent

We are seeking a dedicated Engineer – Mech/Steam/HTHW to join our team at HMP Chelmsford, a Category B & adult/male Prison.

HMP Chelmsford operates like a self-contained city, requiring hundreds of staff to keep it functioning. As part of the Facilities Maintenance Team, we are committed to ensuring smooth and safe operations, impacting prisoners, staff, visitors, families, and the wider community.

As an Engineer – Mech/Steam/HTHW, you will work alongside experienced colleagues including Plumbers, Electricians, Carpenters, Painters, Cleaners, and Administrators, all dedicated to making a positive difference and providing a secure environment.

We are a Ministry of Justice business providing critical, time-bound services to HMPPS and are looking for an Engineer – Mech/Steam/HTHW with the following experience:

  • At least two years’ experience as a steam boiler operator or equivalent
  • Knowledge of Water Supply Regulation and Legionella L8 requirements
  • Familiarity with BG01 – safe operation of boilers
  • Experience with commercial or industrial steam, heating, and water systems
  • Plumber qualification (C&G 6035, C&G 6189, NVQ Level 3 or equivalent)
  • BOAS accredited boiler operator course or equivalent
  • Good Health & Safety knowledge
  • Excellent organizational, time management, and interpersonal skills
