Salary: £57,569.74

Contract: Full time / Permanent (39 hours per week)

Responsibilities and Experience

The successful candidate will be responsible for managing the day‑to‑day operation of the facilities at HMP Bedford, including the maintenance of physical plant, safety and security standards, and the delivery of services to prisoners, staff and visitors.

  • Ensuring all facilities maintain full operational reliability in a high‑security prison environment.
  • Managing and allocating budgets for maintenance, repairs and improvement works.
  • Leading and partnering with multidisciplinary teams of 15+ staff, including plumbers, electricians, carpenters, painters, cleaners and administrators.
  • Co‑ordinating and supervising contractors and external service providers.
  • Maintaining compliance with Health & Safety regulations and prison operational policies.

Qualifications

  • Experience of facilities management, with a track record of managing budgets.
  • Experience managing staff teams of 15 or more.
  • Relevant experience operating in a prison or military environment – desirable.
  • Completed a recognised apprenticeship in a facilities / building services trade, or equivalent experience.
  • IOSH qualification – desirable.
  • Good health & safety knowledge.
  • Excellent organisational, time‑management and people skills.
