Position: Carpenter & Locksmith – Full Time, 39 hours a week (Monday to Sunday)
Location: HMP Aylesbury, HP20 1EH – a Category C men’s prison.
Salary: £39,673.67 plus 5% shift allowance.
About the role
We are looking for an experienced and dedicated Carpenter, including Locksmith responsibilities, to join our Facilities Maintenance Team at HMP Aylesbury. As a Carpenter & Locksmith you will work alongside experienced and passionate colleagues from plumbing, electrical, carpentry, painting, cleaning, administration and more, all dedicated to creating a safe and secure environment for prisoners, staff and visitors. You will contribute to the smooth and safe operation of the prison, supporting rehabilitation and positive change.
Key responsibilities
- Work on carpentry projects including maintenance, repair and installation of structural timber elements.
- Operate and maintain all associated power tools and machinery.
- Provide locksmith duties, such as key cutting, lock installation and maintenance.
- Work within the team to deliver maintenance tasks in a timely, safe, and efficient manner.
- Ensure health and safety compliance in all activities.
Qualifications and experience
- Substantiated experience in a similar role.
- Competency in the use and operation of all associated power tools and machinery.
- Basic IT skills including knowledge of Microsoft Office Excel and Word.
- Knowledge of relevant health and safety requirements.
- Up‑to‑date First Aid at Work qualification.
- City & Guilds, National Vocational Qualification (NVQ) Level 3 in Carpentry or an equivalent qualification or substantial experience.
- Good health and safety knowledge.
- Excellent organisational, time‑management and people skills.
