About the Role

The Mail is looking for a talented and tenacious Health Reporter to join its digital-first, cross-platform newsroom. This is a fantastic opportunity for a journalist with a passion for health, medicine, and science to break compelling stories, deliver exclusive coverage, and contribute to the Mail’s reputation for agenda-setting journalism.

Under the UK Health Editor as part of the Mail’s pioneering health hub, you will cover everything from breaking medical news and policy developments to in-depth features. Your work will appear across MailOnline, Mail+, The Daily Mail, and The Mail on Sunday, ensuring stories are optimised for digital platforms first while also serving print.

Main Responsibilities

  • Report on the latest medical breakthroughs, public health policy, and NHS reforms, producing fast, accurate, and engaging content.
  • Pitch and write splash-worthy exclusives, daily news stories, and long-form features, ensuring content is insightful and impactful.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with key sources in the NHS, pharmaceutical industry, academia, and government.
  • Work collaboratively within the health team to identify key issues and trends, contributing to investigations and special reports.
  • Ensure all reporting meets the Mail’s high editorial standards for accuracy, balance, and reader engagement.

Person Specification

  • Experience in news or health journalism, ideally in a fast-paced newsroom.
  • Strong news sense and the ability to identify compelling, agenda-setting health stories.
  • Ability to write clear, engaging, and authoritative copy to tight deadlines.
  • Knowledge of medical research, public health, and the healthcare system is an advantage.
  • Ability to work flexibly, including some weekends, to cover breaking news.

This is an exciting opportunity to cover one of the most important and fast-growing beats in journalism, with the chance to break exclusives, contribute to investigations, and shape the national conversation on health. If you have the passion, skills, and drive to deliver outstanding health journalism, we want to hear from you.
