A bit about us
Goring Care Homes is a small, family-run group that believes great care starts with looking after the people who give it. Lyndhurst is our cosy 20-bed residential home in Goring, Reading and sits under the wing of our larger sister site, The Grange. Because of that close link you’ll have the Registered Manager at The Grange as your mentor, sounding board and biggest cheerleader.
Why this role is special
- Step-up opportunity – ideal for an experienced Unit Manager or Deputy who wants the freedom to run a home day-to-day before taking on full registered responsibility in the future.
- Built-in support – share resources, best practice and learning with The Grange team, so you’re never flying solo.
- Family feel – decisions are quick, ideas are welcomed and you’ll know the owners by name, not job title.
What you’ll be doing
- Leading Lyndhurst’s daily operations – staffing, rotas, resident experience, and that “home-from-home” atmosphere we’re known for.
- Inspiring and developing a small team (around 25 colleagues) so they can give genuinely person-centred care.
- Keep Lyndhurst’s social media pages fresh and welcoming.
- Host show-rounds and follow up with potential residents & families.
- Work with our Head Chef: menu planning, nutrition oversight and ordering the food shop.
- Maintain our great links with the local GP surgery, district nurses and care-home support team.
- Working hand-in-hand with the Registered Manager at The Grange on audits, improvement plans and compliance checks.
- Building warm relationships with residents’ families, local professionals and the wider community.
- Keeping an eye on budgets, ordering and all the little details that make a home run smoothly.
What we’re looking for
- Current Unit Manager, Senior Nurse or Team Leader with solid people-management experience.
- Up-to-date knowledge of CQC standards (you won’t be the registered manager yet, but you’ll help keep us inspection-ready).
- Confident communicator who loves rolling up sleeves and leading by example.
- Ambition to become a Registered Manager in the next 1-2 years – we’ll help you get there.
- Nursing pin is welcome but not essential – the role focuses on leadership and service quality.
What you’ll get
- Competitive salary + pension.
- New Resident Bonus - first week’s fee for every new resident.
- 28 days’ holiday (including bank holidays).
- Funded training, leadership coaching and support with future registration.
- Free on-site parking, Free meals on shift and, of course, endless tea and biscuits!
- A workplace where your ideas are heard and your successes are celebrated.
