Expert by Experience- Gambling Harm Recovery Support
Gordon Moody is the UK’s leading charity dedicated to supporting and treating gambling-related harm. For over 50 years, we’ve been helping people reclaim and rebuild their lives, offering recovery in safe and supported environments.
We know that lived experience of gambling-related harm brings unique strength and insight to the work we do. That’s why we’re growing our Lived Experience Team — and we’d love you to join us.
As an Expert by Experience (EBE), you’ll use your personal journey of recovery to make a real difference for others. You’ll be reaching out to people who have completed our treatment programmes, offering check-ins, encouragement, and information about ongoing support. You’ll also provide reassurance and advocacy to people currently in treatment, both online and in-person.
This role is all about empathy, understanding, and connection — while maintaining professional boundaries and ensuring the safety and well-being of the people we support.
What You’ll Do
- Reach out by phone to people who have completed a Gordon Moody programme, offering wellness check-ins and support.
- Share information about aftercare, peer support, and other recovery pathways.
- Support people currently in treatment, both online and at our sites in Redditch/Wolverhampton.
- Accurately record conversations and feedback to help improve our services.
- Escalate any safeguarding concerns to the team when needed.
- Champion confidentiality and ethical practice at all times.
- Contribute to audits, training, and continuous improvement.
About You
We’re looking for someone with lived experience of gambling-related harm who is now at least 12 months into recovery. You’ll be confident reaching out to people by phone, able to listen and respond with empathy, and comfortable handling sensitive conversations.
- In recovery from gambling-related harm (12+ months).
- Confident in making phone calls and building rapport.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- Basic knowledge of mental health, trauma, and recovery processes.
- Resilient, empathetic, and adept at handling sensitive situations.
- Self-motivated with good time management.
- Confident with IT systems (databases, Microsoft Office, Outlook).
- Experience of a Gordon Moody treatment programme.
- Experience supporting vulnerable people.
- Training in therapeutic or recovery approaches.
