We are currently recruiting for an assistant Saw doctor and Knife setter. This would be a semi-skilled role, mainly tipping saws and knife sharpening, and setting on cutting machines. We are a family run business operating a busy sawmilling site with over 160 years’ experience in the industry. We continue to invest in the latest technology and equipment and importantly, our employees. Continuous employee development is a priority for the company.
About The Role:
- Applicants should have sound mechanical skills (or skills and experience which could be adapted to this environment) and have a strong Health & Safety work ethic.
- Previous experience in a sawmill environment or previous relatable skills would be preferable.
- They must be able to support the current saw doctor in all his duties.
- Also support and work with the production team with equipment availability.
- They must also have good communication and interpersonal skills, be able to work as part of a team or on their own initiative and be able to complete the work in a safe and professional manner.
- Training will be provided.
Skills and Experience Required:
- A sound mechanical background
- Working on and preparing saw machinery
- Welding and braising would be preferable
- Be able to work safely, under pressure, in a production environment
About You:
- Able to work to own initiative or as part of a team
- Honest and trustworthy
- Have good verbal and written communication skills
- Be willing to assist in other engineering tasks when required.
