The Supplier Quality Engineer (SQE) role is responsible for the project quality activity throughout the process from concept through to production.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage the Advanced Product Quality Planning (APQP) activity to achieve PPAP approval of supplied components for Gordon Murray Automotive (GMA) products.
- Support DFMEA & PFMEA activity and identification of critical and significant characteristics and ensure that these are identified correctly in the design & production process.
- Responsible for the quality sign-off of supplier capability during the GMA supplier nomination process.
- Support the activity to define & update the GMA measurement & inspection strategy.
- Responsible for completing first article inspections.
- Engage and manage our suppliers to consistently deliver products that meet our defined requirements.
- Responsible for the preparation and maintenance of GMA Manufacturing Control Plans.
- Responsible for the creation, analysis and application of GMA inspection procedures.
- Responsible for the calculation of statistical capability on identified critical and significant characteristics.
- Responsible for the completion of measurement systems analysis on new and existing equipment.
- Support the development and maintenance of documented work instructions to conform to the control plan.
- Support the activity relating to Type Approval & Conformity of Production.
- Support new product launches to ensure that product quality meets the required standards.
- Facilitate root cause analysis and corrective actions of quality issues and perform verification of corrective actions.
- Facilitate the escalation of unresolved quality issues.
- Conduct lessons learned sessions at the start of each project phase.
- Promote techniques for continuous improvement such as Lean, Six-Sigma, Poka-Yoke (Error Proofing) and Measurement System Analysis.
- Report on Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) at project meetings and to clients.
- In conjunction with the Engineering and Procurement functions, assist in resolving issues and general queries regarding supplier quality issues.
Skills, Knowledge and Expertise
- Strong knowledge of Advanced Product Quality Planning (APQP), Production Part Approval Process (PPAP), Failure Mode and Effect Analysis (FMEA) Lean Manufacturing knowledge.
- Working knowledge of ISO9001:2015 and IATF 16949:2016.
- Understanding of ISO14001.
- Metrology, Inspection Methods and Equipment including measurement arm experience.
- Understanding and interpretation of engineering drawings.
- Understanding of manufacturing processes.
- Ability to work in a diverse and dynamic environment.
- Planning and prioritising of activities.
- Good communication and interpersonal skills.
- Negotiation skills.
- Ability to present data effectively.
- Understanding of Health and Safety practices.
