Role
The SQE is responsible for working closely with their nominated suppliers and internal interfacing functions to ensure the necessary quality assurance activities required to guarantee good quality parts to GMA vehicles are fully realised within the supply base, and that all the supplied parts they are responsible for are fully matured and validated from design concept stage through to production readiness and final parts sign off.
Key Responsibilities
- Conduct supplier audits as defined in the Supplier Audit Plan. Supplier Audits may be conducted as follows: Initial audits as part of the GMA Supplier Nomination Process, Ongoing surveillance audits and Process & Product Audits
- Act as the main quality signatory for the sign-off of newly nominated suppliers, based on audit results and supplier quality capability assessment.
- Support new projects (NPI) Process and manage the Advanced Product Quality Planning (APQP) activities with selected suppliers in line with internally defined APQP deliverables for assigned projects.
- Participate and engage in DFMEA & PFMEA activities and ensure that identified critical and significant characteristics are understood and cascaded to suppliers as part of APQP and/or overall quality activities with suppliers.
- Agree PPAP requirements with suppliers and review/approve/reject PPAP submissions.
- Ensure supplier measurement and inspection strategy is aligned with Engineering requirements and that of our internal quality and Goods Inwards inspection team.
- Responsible for confirming initial sample inspection reports (ISIR’s) are completed and submitted for review.
- Engage with and manage your nominated suppliers to ensure they consistently deliver products that meet our defined requirements and specifications.
- Effectively manage supplier non-conformance to ensure the prevention of recurrence through the application of standard problem-solving tools such as 8D, Ishikawa (Cause & Effect), 5 Why, etc.
- SQE’s are required to facilitate containment activities at suppliers and ensure robust root cause analysis, review and agree preventive/corrective actions implemented by suppliers and confirm the final verification activities to enable concern closure.
- Escalate unresolved Supplier quality issues to your line manager.
- Conduct lessons learned sessions with suppliers at the start of each project phase and support in-house lessons learned exercises where applicable (SQE interfaces with internal teams).
- Promote techniques for continuous improvement such as Lean, Six-Sigma, Poka-Yoke (Error Proofing) and Measurement System Analysis.
- The SQE is responsible for data collection/analysis for Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) and reporting to line manager and business as required.
- In conjunction with the Engineering and Supply Chain functions, assist in resolving issues and general queries regarding supplier quality issues.
- Where required act as point of contact for lineside supplier quality queries and support the internal Triage Process for determining allocation on concerns raised.
- Work in close collaboration with internal Quality and Goods Inwards Inspectors to ensure clear and accurate information is shared with suppliers and internally to enable timely resolution of supplier concerns.
- May be required to act as Lead on nominated SQE projects.
- May be required to stand in for line manager in their absence.
- Travel to UK and overseas as required by the role (Full UK driving license required).
Skills, Knowledge and Expertise
- Experience of working within Powertrain, Chassis, Vehicle Structure, Electrical/Electronics, and Interior commodity groups. Detailed knowledge within the commodity of Powertrain is of particular interest.
- Strong knowledge of Advanced Product Quality Planning (APQP), Production Part Approval Process (PPAP), Failure Mode and Effect Analysis (FMEA). Certification of AIAG Core Tools Training would be an advantage.
- Knowledge of Lean Manufacturing Tools. Experience with 5S, Value Stream Mapping, TPM, OEE, Gemba, Kaizen, CI Process (PDCA), Six Sigma, etc. would be an added advantage.
- Working knowledge of ISO9001:2015 and IATF 16949:2016.
- Knowledge and/or experience of ISO14001:2015 (Environmental Management) and ISO 45001:2015 (Health & Safety Management).
- Knowledge and/or experience in Metrology, Inspection Methods and Measuring Equipment
- Understanding and interpretation of engineering drawings and GD&T.
- Knowledge and experience of a variety of manufacturing processes used within the Automotive Industry.
- Capable of working in a diverse and dynamic environment and be able to plan and prioritize workload efficiently and effectively to meet the needs of the business.
- Good communication and interpersonal skills. Must be a team player.
- Must possess good negotiation skills.
- Ability to compile and present data effectively. Good presentation skills
- Organised, persuasive, resourceful, flexible, ambitious, self-directing, passion for delivering objectives, comfortable challenging existing processes.
- Clear and effective communication skills with internal and external clients and be able to operate at all levels of the business from shopfloor to senior leadership teams.
