GMSV has been created to meet the demand for specialist requests from customers around the world. Requests for unique and niche designs have accelerated during 2024 as T.50 customer deliveries have begun and the car's profile as the ultimate supercar for the road has increased following media reviews and international promotional appearances. The new division, with an independent structure and engineering team, has been formed to meet these special requests now and in the future.
As a Lead Engineer at Gordon Murray Advanced Engineering, you will play a pivotal role in supporting the Head of Special Vehicles in the technical design & integration of mechanical systems for unique vehicle programmes. This position offers an exciting opportunity to be both leading mechanical systems whilst remaining hands-on with design and packaging.
Key Responsibilities
- System-Level Mechanical Design: Develop and execute mechanical designs for powertrain and chassis systems, ensuring seamless integration and optimal performance.
- Modelling & Simulation: Utilize Catia V5 to create detailed 3D models, perform simulations, and conduct feasibility studies to support design decisions.
- Packaging & Integration: Lead the integration of mechanical systems within overall vehicle architecture, balancing performance, manufacturability, and spatial constraints.
- Cross-Functional Collaboration: Work closely with electrical, software, and systems engineering teams to ensure cohesive design solutions and successful project outcomes.
- Design Optimization & Innovation: Continuously assess and enhance existing designs, embracing new technologies and methodologies to drive performance improvements and innovation.
- Technical Documentation: Produce comprehensive design documentation, including technical reports, drawings, and specification documents to support development and manufacturing processes.
Skills, Knowledge and Expertise
- Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Automotive Engineering, or a related field. Master's degree preferred.
- Proven experience in automotive engineering, with a focus on vehicle design and development.
- Expert-level proficiency in Catia V5 for 3D modelling, design validation, and system integration.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively across functional teams.
- Strong analytical skills with the ability to diagnose issues, develop innovative solutions, and implement continuous improvements.
- Previous experience working on unique vehicle programmes or special projects is highly desirable.
