Gordon College invites applications for a full-time Mental Health Counselor. Under the direction of the Dean of Student Wellness, provides counseling services to students including assessment, brief therapy, crisis intervention, case management, community referrals, consultation, and psycho-educational programming.
Description of Duties and Tasks:
- Conduct intake assessments, including presenting problems, history, mental status, family and socio-cultural background, and develop case conceptualizations.
- Determine suitability for brief therapy or facilitate referrals to off-campus professionals.
- Develop treatment plans with measurable goals and interventions.
- Conduct suicide risk assessments in consultation with staff and evaluate hospitalization needs.
- Provide consultation to college community members and collaborate on psycho-educational workshops and sessions for students, faculty, staff, and parents.
- Maintain client records confidentially within an Electronic Medical System and participate in staff meetings.
- Offer programming targeting students' developmental needs to enhance their college experience.
- Practice according to professional ethical standards and college policies.
- Perform additional duties as assigned by the Dean of Student Wellness.
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Must profess faith in Jesus Christ, accept Gordon’s Statement of Faith, and practice Christian values in interactions, supporting Gordon’s mission.
- Master's Degree in Counseling Psychology, Social Work, or related field required; preference for licensed professionals or license-eligible candidates.
- Strong personal counseling and interviewing skills.
- Ability to relate constructively to students and college community members.
