We are looking for a hard‑working and reliable Foundry Operative to join our busy Foundry team. You’ll support the full moulding and core‑making process, helping to produce high‑quality castings using chemically bonded sand processes. This varied, hands‑on role suits someone with strong attention to detail, good practical ability, and a commitment to safety and quality.
Key Responsibilities
- Produce accurate moulds and cores using manual and semi‑automated Airset processes
- Handle, clean and prepare patterns, applying release agents and reporting wear/damage
- Assemble moulds correctly, including core placement, filters, and gating systems
- Create chemically bonded sand cores with correct curing, hardness and surface finish
- Assist the melting/furnace team by preparing moulds for pouring
- Break out castings safely using appropriate tools and techniques
- Inspect moulds, cores and castings for defects and quality standards
- Perform routine cleaning and basic equipment maintenance, reporting faults promptly
- Work collaboratively across moulding, core‑making, melting and finishing teams
- Maintain excellent housekeeping in moulding, core‑making and shakeout areas
- Follow all foundry safety procedures, PPE requirements and safe‑working practices
Desirable Skills and Experience
- Experience working as a Foundry Operative
- Familiarity with chemically bonded sand processes
- Ability to read technical drawings and work instructions
- Forklift licence (advantage)
- Strong attention to detail and quality
- Good physical stamina; comfortable lifting and handling materials
- Good communication and teamwork skills
- A positive attitude and willingness to learn
- Commitment to safety, PPE, and safe working practices
