Overview: The work of a Software Engineer goes beyond just Search. Software Engineering Managers have the technical expertise to provide leadership to major projects and manage a team of Engineers. You optimize your own code and ensure Engineers can optimize theirs. As a Software Engineering Manager, you manage project goals, contribute to product strategy, and help develop your team. Teams work across the company in areas such as information retrieval, artificial intelligence, natural language processing, distributed computing, large-scale system design, networking, security, data compression, and user interface design.

With technical and leadership expertise, you manage engineers across multiple teams and locations, oversee a large product budget, and deploy large-scale projects internationally. As the Technical Lead Manager, you will work with display and power management technologies for Android OS development across a range of devices. You will ensure the stability and extensibility of critical display and power frameworks for the entire Android ecosystem and partner with various teams to deliver essential support for new features, enable upcoming innovations, and identify and address gaps in Android's display and power capabilities.

Responsibilities:

  • Manage a team of software engineers as a Tech Lead Manager (TLM).
  • Review and contribute to technical design documents, ensuring code quality, testability, and adherence to best practices.
  • Conduct code reviews and provide constructive feedback to engineers.
  • Diagnose, debug, and resolve technical issues, including performance and power optimization.
  • Drive improvements to the team’s development processes and tools.

Minimum qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent practical experience.
  • 8 years of experience in software development.
  • 5 years of experience testing and launching software products.
  • 3 years of experience with software design and architecture.
  • 3 years of team leadership or management experience.
  • 3 years of experience working in one of the following domains: Android, IOS, Embedded, Firmware.

Preferred qualifications:

  • Master’s degree or PhD in Engineering, Computer Science, or a related technical field.
  • 8 years of experience with data structures and algorithms.
  • 3 years of experience in a technical leadership role leading project teams and setting technical direction.
  • 3 years of experience working in an organization involving cross-functional or cross-business projects.
  • Experience working with programming languages such as Java and Kotlin.
