Minimum qualifications: Bachelor's degree or equivalent practical experience. 10 years of experience in public policy, communications, or government affairs, with 3 years of experience focused on technical AI governance, frontier AI safety, or emerging technology policy. 2 years of experience translating technical concepts into policy briefings for external policymakers, or translating policy constraints for technical research teams.
Preferred qualifications: Experience designing, negotiating, or managing third-party testing protocols, incident disclosure frameworks, or auditing regimes. Experience with international standards bodies (e.g., ISO/IEC, INCITS, NIST) or industry coalitions (e.g., Frontier Model Forum), with a track record of drafting, negotiating, or influencing technical and governance standards. An established, high-trust network of global AI safety contacts, including senior government officials, think tanks and technical policy experts in key markets (US, UK, EU).

Responsibilities:
- Engage with international standards bodies (e.g., ISO, INCITS) and industry coalitions like Frontier Model Forum (FMF) to establish technical benchmarks and best practices for advanced AI.
- Establish and oversee steady-state protocols for unclassified and classified government model evaluations and discuss frameworks for cross-border incident disclosure.
- Act as the critical bridge between external regulatory developments and internal engineering, translating emerging standards into launch and compliance practices.
- Shape external oversight policies for advanced systems, defining auditor criteria, access protocols and positions on regulatory regimes.
- Work with colleagues across policy and public affairs to orchestrate high-profile round tables and bilateral engagements that unite external policymakers, civil society, and technical experts with DeepMind's internal scientists to forge consensus on responsible AI adoption.
