About the job

Google's software engineers develop the next-generation technologies that change how billions of users connect, explore, and interact with information and one another.

Our products need to handle information at massive scale, and extend well beyond web search.

We're looking for engineers who bring fresh ideas from all areas, including information retrieval, distributed computing, large-scale system design, networking and data storage, security, artificial intelligence, natural language processing, UI design and mobile; the list goes on and is growing every day.

As a software engineer, you will work on a specific project critical to Google’s needs with opportunities to switch teams and projects as you and our fast-paced business grow and evolve.

We need our engineers to be versatile, display leadership qualities and be enthusiastic to take on new problems across the full-stack as we continue to push technology forward.

With your technical expertise you will manage project priorities, deadlines, and deliverables. You will design, develop, test, deploy, maintain, and enhance software solutions.

The Modem Reliability Engineering (MRE) team within Pixel Test Engineering is responsible for end-to-end cellular reliability, quality, performance, and modem software delivery across the Google Pixel portfolio.

Operating at the intersection of embedded modem firmware and live global carrier networks, MRE drives protocol/RF validation, field testing strategy, carrier technical support and certification, deep protocol debugging, and AI-powered test tooling transformation to deliver seamless connectivity experiences for Pixel users worldwide.

The Platforms and Ecosystems product area encompasses Google's various computing software platforms across environments (desktop, mobile, applications).

The products provide enterprises, and ultimately end users, the ability to utilize and manage their services at scale.

We build innovative and compelling software products—from apps to TVs, from laptops to phones—that have an impact on people’s lives across the world.

Responsibilities

  • Define technical direction, test strategy, and roadmaps for Pixel modem firmware (5G NR, LTE, NTN/Satellite, IMS/Vo NR/Vo Wi Fi, NAS/AS, RF/L1) across global networks and vendors to balance launch targets with platform quality.
  • Lead distributed engineering and vendor teams through field verification cycles (functional, performance, mobility, reliability, stress, carrier certification) to ensure commercial software quality.
  • Transition manual testing to scalable, AI-driven automation—modernizing test harnesses, Key Performance Indicator (KPI) collection, cloud data pipelines, and log triage to enhance velocity and cost efficiency.
  • Lead technical escalations for complex modem/network issues, guiding root-cause analysis of 3GPP protocol/RF traces and driving fixes across Modem software, Systems, RF hardware, and vendors.
