We’re keen to hire a talented Writer to join our Science and Frontier AI Research external communications team. This team is responsible for telling the story of our most advanced work—from fundamental scientific discoveries to the development of frontier models that are redefining the capabilities of artificial intelligence. The role: We are looking for an exceptional Science writer and communicator to join our team in London, reporting to the Science and Frontier AI Communications Lead. In this role, you will embed deeply with our research teams to understand their latest breakthroughs and translate them into compelling written content for a variety of audiences. You will play a critical role in shaping how our research is perceived globally. You will not just be editing; you will be a thought partner to our scientists, drafting blogs for new models, op‑ed‑s and social media posts to drive thought leadership and articulate the scientific methodology behind our latest breakthroughs.

Key responsibilities:

  • AI driving scientific advances: in collaboration with Comms colleagues and researchers, develop compelling, accessible written communications that show how GDM’s research and AI models are benefitting scientists and society today – and enabling the breakthroughs of tomorrow.
  • Technical Storytelling: Draft and edit high‑quality blog posts, op‑ed‑s, social media posts, and white papers that explain our scientific and frontier AI research.
  • Research Collaboration: Partner directly with research leads and scientists to understand the nuance of their work.
  • Launch Communications: Serve as the primary writer for major breakthrough launches and scientific announcements, ensuring consistency in tone and accuracy in technical claims across all materials.
  • Translation and Clarity: Synthesize dense technical information into clear, concise content that is suitable for technical and generalist audiences.
  • Strategic Messaging: Work with the External Communications Lead to ensure all written materials align with our broader scientific narrative and mission.
  • Manage a multi‑format, multi‑platform editorial pipeline: Develop editorial strategy and manage production across multiple formats and platforms.

About You:

In order to set you up for success as a Science & Frontier AI Research - Writer / Communicator at Google DeepMind, we look for the following skills and experience:

  • Experience: 5+ years of experience in science communications, science or technical writing, or journalism, with a specific focus on AI, computer science, or physics.
  • Strong writing and research skills, with an emphasis on quality and detail.
  • Technical Fluency: A strong ability to read and understand technical research papers.
  • Portfolio: A portfolio of writing that demonstrates the ability to explain complex topics with clarity and elegance.
  • Project Management: Ability to manage multiple writing projects simultaneously with tight deadlines in a fast‑paced environment.
