Associate Engineer – Track Support – Car Motorsport EMEA

The Role:
As an Associate Engineer for Track Support, you will support Motorsport Tyre Development or Race Engineer in the preparation of events (race or tests), to generate the relevant data and information in view of optimizing tyre performance and durability. This support will also extend to our customers, mainly by guiding them through the right tyre choice and operating conditions and supplying the right level of data.
Principle Duties and Responsibilities:
- Attends development tests and race events to assess and monitor Goodyear racing tyres.
- Gathers, analyses, and reports the relevant quantity and quality of data to make sure that the Senior Engineer Testing & Track Support, Motorsport R&D engineers, or Race Engineers have the right information and data necessary to improve tyre / car performance and develop next tyre generations.
- This collaboration may extend with 3rd party vehicle dynamics consultants.
- Acts as the primary link between the Tyre Development or Race Engineers and the customer when at the track.
- Produce Pre & Post event reports for any test or race event attended or supported – All reports need to be compiled in a timely manner to suit each individual event. All data from each event to be recorded in the internal software/database.
- Liaise with Team Managers, Team Engineers and Racing drivers to primarily secure safe tyres’ operating conditions, advises on tyre selection to ensure the most competitive tyre equipment is utilised and best performance is achieved for tests, practices, and races.
- Liaise with the Senior Engineer Testing & Track Support to make sure tyres are programmed and will be built and delivered in due time for development events tests / races events.
- Participates to stock management to drive efficient usage of stock and minimise obsolete stock when new generations of products are to be introduced.
- Informs Senior Engineer Testing & Track Support, Event manager, R&D and Finance department of any impact foreseen in that domain.
- Provide Events Managers with appropriate and accurate information to guide and help them in the relevant choice of tyres specifications for events and tests and upon customer’s requests.
- Participates when needed and relevant in helping with tyre shipment (sea or air), hotels, flight bookings & movement schedules, etc.
Education, Experience and Skills:
- Experience within Motorsport or race activity – whether that is in the design department, quality, production or service.
- A good understanding of vehicle technical data.
- Experience in the automotive industry, working with tyres is desirable.
- A high level of track support experience and good understanding of vehicle dynamics.
- Excellent communication skills.
- Able to work quickly and accurately under pressure.
- Strong organisational skills.
- Good analytical skills – able to interpret and summarise data.
- Required to work up to 20 weekends per year as well as substantial travel globally.
- A full UK driving licence.
