The Team

Goodwin's Intellectual Property Transactions and Data, Privacy & Cybersecurity team in London advises clients on strategic technology transactions, intellectual property licensing, commercial contracts and data privacy matters. Working closely with colleagues across Goodwin's global platform, the team advises on many of the firm's most strategic domestic and cross-border transactions for market-leading technology companies, investors and innovators. Our practice is sector agnostic and supports clients across software, AI and machine learning, fintech, life sciences, healthcare, e-commerce, digital infrastructure, consumer technology and financial services. The team advises on sophisticated commercial technology and strategic transactions, working alongside leading technology companies, private equity sponsors, venture capital investors and life sciences businesses. The work spans intellectual property licensing, technology and SaaS agreements, technology aspects of domestic and cross-border M&A and private equity transactions, strategic collaborations, outsourcing, artificial intelligence, digital products, data protection and cybersecurity.

The Role

As part of the continued growth of our London practice, we are seeking a junior associate to join our Intellectual Property Transactions and Data, Privacy & Cybersecurity team. The successful candidate will be either a September 2026 newly qualified associate or up to 1 PQE. The London team is made up of two partners (Gretchen Scott and Curtis McCluskey), one counsel and three associates. This is an exceptional opportunity for 0-1 PQE associate, or a September 2026 qualifier who has trained at a leading City or international law firm and has at least six months' experience in technology, commercial or IP transactions during their training contract.

The successful candidate will demonstrate:

  • A strong understanding of intellectual property concepts and commercial contracts
  • An excellent technical ability and a genuine enthusiasm for technology transactions
  • Experience of, or exposure to, technology transactions and IP licensing
  • A solid grasp of supply, services and software agreements
  • Experience of commercial and IP due diligence; exposure to data protection and privacy matters would be advantageous
  • Excellent drafting, analytical, and written and verbal communication skills
  • An interest in technology-driven businesses and emerging technologies, including AI, digital platforms and software
  • The ability to manage competing priorities and work effectively in a fast-paced, collaborative and international environment
  • Curiosity and proactivity to develop across a wide variety of commercial technology matters
  • An industry-immersed mindset with the ability to build trusted relationships with clients and colleagues
