Overview
Position Summary: Receives and disburses money in our Bookstore establishments. Process credit/debit card and cash payments using POS system, provides good customer service and accurate cash handling. Daily duties include, placement and removal of merchandise on the sales floor, housekeeping duties and processing and accepting donations.
Responsibilities:
- Accurately rings up customers using POS system, receives payment of cash, credit card, debit cards and GISD gift certificates, bags and/or wraps customer’s purchase.
- Provides excellent customer service to donors and shoppers, greets customers upon entering and leaving the store. Listens to customers’ complaints politely and refers them to management for appropriate resolution.
- Utilizes 4DX methodology for achieving organizational goals.
- Follows Daily Assignment List issued by management which includes duties such as sorting and shelving books, pricing books and merchandise, identifying books/product that are in popular demand such as “hot” and “new release”, and place new merchandise on sales floor, create window and in-store displays, and keep the store stocked with fresh merchandise.
- Keeps all areas of the store clean and neat. Assists in housekeeping duties, including mopping floors when necessary.
- Reports any incidents of theft or unauthorized possession of company property to management immediately.
- Accepts donations according to company guidelines and maintains all donation receipts securely in an organized manner.
- Performs other related duties as assigned.
Qualifications
Skills & Abilities
Education / Experience: High School Diploma (or GED) preferred. Minimum one year related experience.
Computer Skills: Basic use of computer and computer related equipment/software. MS Office Suite – Word and Excel programs.
Equipment: Ability to operate electronic, POS cash register system.
Other Requirements: Must be able to understand the basic principles of running a retail store: stocking, merchandise flow, quotas. Cash handling: Able to perform simple arithmetic tasks including addition, subtraction, fractions, percentages, etc. Follow procedures and company established guidelines both in written and unwritten format.
