We are currently recruiting for an experienced Arborist on behalf of our client, a well-established organisation delivering arboricultural and environmental services across London. This is a hands-on role offering the opportunity to work on a wide range of tree maintenance and vegetation management projects within residential and public spaces.
The Role:
As an Arborist, you will carry out all aspects of tree work safely and efficiently, ensuring compliance with industry standards and health and safety regulations. You will work as part of a wider team maintaining tree stock, supporting biodiversity, and delivering a high-quality service to clients and the public.
Key Responsibilities:
- Perform tree felling, dismantling, pruning, thinning, and rigging operations
- Climb trees and operate using rope and harness systems
- Operate and maintain equipment including chainsaws, wood chippers, and stump grinders
- Carry out aerial tree rescue operations when required
- Clear brushwood and process tree arisings
- Undertake planting of trees, shrubs, and hedging, including installation of supports
- Conduct formative pruning, irrigation, and young tree maintenance
- Work safely in residential areas, minimising disruption to residents
- Identify hazards and follow safe systems of work and risk assessments
- Assist with traffic management where required
- Maintain accurate work records
Vehicle and Equipment Responsibilities:
- Carry out daily vehicle checks and maintain vehicle logbooks
- Drive safely in line with company policies and legal requirements
- Take responsibility for the care and security of vehicles, tools, and equipment
- Perform daily and weekly maintenance checks on plant and machinery
- Ensure all equipment is used safely and in accordance with regulations (LOLER and PUWER)
About You:
- Proven experience in arboriculture or forestry
- Relevant NPTC certifications (e.g. CS30, CS31, CS38 or equivalent)
- Experience climbing trees and using chainsaws
- Good understanding of health and safety practices (including COSHH awareness)
- Ability to work outdoors in all weather conditions
- Physically fit and able to carry out demanding manual work
- Strong communication skills and ability to engage with colleagues and the public
- Able to work independently and as part of a team
- Full UK driving licence
Additional Information:
- Participation in an out-of-hours emergency call-out rota may be required
- You may be required to cover for team members during periods of absence
- Duties may vary in line with business needs
