Goodman Masson are delighted to be supporting a leading professional membership organisation in their search for a Financial Accounting and Reporting Manager. This is a fantastic opportunity for a qualified accountant to take ownership of a critical financial accounting and reporting function within a highly respected, values-driven organisation, on a 9 month Fixed-Term-Contract.
The Role
Reporting to the Head of Financial Accounting and Operations, you’ll lead a team responsible for all aspects of financial accounting, reporting, compliance, and control. This is a hands-on leadership role with a strong focus on continuous improvement, technical excellence, and stakeholder collaboration across the organisation.
You will:
- Lead, develop, and coach the financial accounting team to deliver a high-performing and customer-focused service.
- Oversee monthly, quarterly, and year-end close processes, ensuring accurate and timely reporting.
- Manage the preparation of statutory financial statements (including group consolidation) and act as the key contact for external auditors.
- Oversee VAT and Corporation Tax compliance, working closely with external advisors to ensure proactive adherence to evolving regulations.
- Lead on Treasury and Investment Management, maintaining effective relationships with banking and investment partners.
- Take ownership of financial reporting for the organisation’s charitable entities, including presentation at trustee board meetings.
- Drive continuous improvement across all financial accounting processes and strengthen the organisation’s control environment.
- Support the Head of Financial Accounting and Operations in delivering a robust and compliant financial framework aligned with organisational strategy.
About You
You’ll be a qualified accountant (ACA, ACCA, or CIMA) with a minimum of 5 years post-qualified experience in financial accounting and reporting, ideally gained in a complex or multi-entity environment. You’ll combine technical expertise with strong people leadership and a commitment to delivering high standards.
Essential skills and experience:
- Proven track record of managing financial accounting and reporting functions.
- Strong understanding of financial controls, audit processes, and statutory reporting (including FRS 102).
- Experience managing VAT, Corporation Tax, and Treasury operations.
- Excellent Excel skills, with the ability to manipulate and analyse financial data effectively.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills, able to collaborate across teams and influence at all levels.
- A proactive, detail-oriented mindset with a drive for improvement and efficiency.
Desirable:
- Experience working with charitable entities and knowledge of Charity SORP.
- Previous exposure to presenting to Trustees or Board-level committees.
