Job Description

Fire Safety Advisor B&D Reside | £55,000-£65,000 | Hybrid - Barking / Sites / Home | Contract with potential to become permanent
Goodman Masson are delighted to be supporting B&D Reside with the appointment of a Fire Safety Advisor, a newly created position within their Asset Management team.

This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced fire safety professional to join an organisation with a strong commitment to resident safety and play a key role in strengthening fire safety compliance, assurance and risk management across its housing portfolio.

Working closely with the Fire Safety Manager, you will provide specialist technical advice across B&D Reside, supporting the Responsible Person and wider teams to ensure statutory and regulatory obligations are met.

The Opportunity
As Fire Safety Advisor, you will play a key role in ensuring B&D Reside's fire safety programme is delivered effectively, on time and to the required standards.

You will work across Compliance, Repairs, Building Safety, Estates, Health & Safety, Asset Management and Housing Management, providing technical expertise and helping to embed a positive, consistent fire safety culture across the organisation.

The role will have a particular focus on complex and higher-risk residential buildings, fire risk management, technical assurance, regulatory compliance, data governance and continuous improvement.

You will also have the opportunity to influence how B&D Reside manages and improves its fire safety information, systems and processes as the organisation continues to develop its approach to the Golden Thread and building safety information.

Key Responsibilities

  • Support the Fire Safety Manager in developing and delivering fire safety policies, strategies and annual action plans.
  • Undertake fire safety inspections and risk reviews, developing appropriate action plans and remediation requirements.
  • Manage and oversee fire risk assessment programmes, ensuring assessments are completed to a high standard and within required timescales.
  • Provide expert technical advice on fire safety across B&D Reside's property portfolio.
  • Support fire safety improvement projects across Asset Management, Compliance, Repairs and Building Safety.
  • Quality assure fire risk assessments, surveys, remedial works and wider fire safety activity.
  • Maintain and develop comprehensive fire safety risk registers, ensuring risks, mitigations and actions are properly tracked.
  • Investigate fire-related incidents, dangerous occurrences and near misses, identifying lessons learned and improvement opportunities.
  • Support the delivery of PCFRAs and PEEPs where required.
  • Oversee key fire safety documentation including evacuation plans, fire statements and supporting evidence.
  • Work with external consultants and stakeholders on Fire Action Plans and the rollout of the triple pathway evacuation system.
  • Provide oversight of Fire Incident Reporting, Fire & Rescue Service compliance and Regulation 38 certification processes.
  • Act as an operational interface with relevant regulatory bodies and Fire & Rescue Services.
  • Support the management of fire safety requirements across Higher Risk Buildings where required.
  • Ensure key building information, including Regulation 38 information, as-built documentation, floor plans, PEEPs, evacuation strategies and fire safety records, is accurate and up to date.
  • Act as the data steward for fire safety information, ensuring robust governance, accuracy and data quality.
  • Support digital improvement initiatives and the development of effective fire safety information management systems.
  • Promote resident engagement and ensure fire safety information is communicated clearly and effectively.
  • Develop strong relationships with internal and external stakeholders, including contractors, consultants, the Council and Fire & Rescue Services.
  • Horizon scan for changes in legislation, regulation and best practice, ensuring B&D Reside responds proactively.
  • Contribute to committees, senior management meetings and reporting requirements relating to fire safety.

About You
We are looking for an experienced fire safety professional with a strong technical background and a proven track record working within complex residential buildings.

You will ideally bring

  • A Level 4 Fire Safety qualification, degree in Fire Safety, Construction, Engineering, Building Construction or an equivalent qualification.
  • Significant experience in fire safety/building safety management within complex or high-risk residential buildings.
  • Strong knowledge of the Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order 2005, Fire Safety Act 2021, Fire Safety (England) Regulations 2022, Building Safety Act 2022 and relevant building regulations and standards.
  • Knowledge of the Fire Safety (Residential Evacuation Plans) (England) Regulations 2025.
  • Strong understanding of building construction and both passive and active fire protection systems.
  • Experience with fire risk assessments, fire strategies, compartmentation surveys, FRAEW and related technical documentation.
  • Experience producing or quality assuring fire safety management systems and high-level risk documentation.
  • Strong understanding of data governance, digital safety systems and information quality.
