Goodman Masson are currently working with a social housing organisation in London to recruit for an interim Operations Manager / Head of Repairs.
We are seeking an experienced Operations Manager/ Head of Repairs to lead and manage a high‐performing team responsible for delivering a responsive maintenance service across a multi-site residential portfolio. This is a senior operational role with responsibility for ensuring efficiency, compliance, and excellent customer outcomes across all responsive and planned maintenance works.
Role Purpose
Reporting to the senior leadership team, you will take ownership of the operational delivery of responsive and planned works, ensuring services are efficient, customer-focused, and aligned with organisational priorities. You will lead, support, and challenge managers and supervisors, driving continuous improvement and operational excellence across the service.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead and manage teams across multiple workstreams to deliver responsive, planned, and remedial maintenance services
- Oversee scheduling, inspection, and post-inspection processes to ensure high-quality service delivery
- Manage subcontractors, suppliers, and contractor relationships to achieve agreed performance standards
- Monitor operational budgets, material usage, and cost efficiency across the service
- Ensure teams operate in line with health, safety, compliance, and regulatory requirements, including asbestos management and risk assessments
- Deputise for senior leadership as required
- Report operational and financial performance internally and externally, providing insight to inform decision‐making
- Foster collaboration across departments, stakeholders, and residents to achieve service excellence
- Promote a culture of accountability, continuous improvement, and high‐quality customer service
Required Skills & Experience
- Significant experience leading multi‐disciplinary teams in a residential maintenance, construction, or similar operational environment
- Experience managing large budgets (c. £10–15m)
- Strong operational insight, with a track record of innovation and process improvement
- Knowledge of Health & Safety regulations, risk assessments, and method statements
- Understanding of asbestos policy and procedures
- Excellent communication, numeracy, IT, and stakeholder management skills
- Relevant HND, degree, or equivalent experience in a construction, property, or engineering discipline
