We are seeking a skilled and experienced Maintenance Engineer with a strong electrical background to join our plastic injection moulding factory in Worcester. The ideal candidate will be responsible for ensuring the smooth operation, maintenance, and repair of manufacturing equipment. This role also involves mentoring and overseeing the development of an apprentice engineer, making it a great opportunity for candidates with leadership potential. Responsibilities
- Perform routine maintenance and repairs on plastic injection moulding machines and auxiliary equipment (e.g., chillers, robots, granulators & air compressors).
- Diagnose and resolve electrical issues, including PLCs, control systems, and other electronic subsystems.
- Conduct regular inspections to identify potential issues and prevent breakdowns.
- Oversee and maintain electrical systems critical to production processes and ensure compliance with safety standards for all electrical work.
- Implement upgrades or modifications to improve equipment performance.
- Collaborate with production teams to minimise downtime and maximise efficiency, and develop strategies to improve reliability and safety of machinery and processes.
- Maintain accurate records of maintenance activities using digital tools.
- Submit detailed daily activity reports outlining tasks completed, issues encountered, and resolutions implemented.
- Provide weekly improvement progress reports highlighting areas of success, challenges faced, and plans for further enhancement.
- Work closely with other engineering professionals and production staff to ensure seamless operations, communicating effectively at all levels.
- Adhere to health and safety regulations; conduct risk assessments for maintenance tasks as needed.
Qualifications & Skills
- Proven experience in maintaining plastic injection moulding machinery or similar industrial equipment.
- Strong expertise in electrical systems, including PLC programming and troubleshooting.
- Engineering qualifications to a minimum of level 3 (Mechatronics or Electrical).
- Familiarity with mechanical systems is advantageous but not essential.
- Digitally savvy, comfortable using computerised maintenance management systems (CMMS) or similar tools.
- Excellent problem‑solving skills with attention to detail.
- Strong communication skills and ability to work effectively in a team environment.
- Previous experience mentoring or supervising junior staff is highly desirable.
