Goodenough College is looking for an experienced Building Services Manager to lead the delivery of high-quality mechanical, electrical and plumbing services across our estate. Reporting to the Head of Estates, you will play a key role in ensuring the reliability, compliance and efficiency of our technical operations, while managing a team of engineers and specialist contractors.

Job Details

  • Location: Mecklenburgh Square, London WC1N 2AB
  • Salary: £55,000 per annum, including College employee benefits.
  • Hours: 40 hours per week (Monday to Friday). Flexibility required.
  • Contract: Permanent

Responsibilities

  • Develop and implement an effective asset management strategy for all MEP systems, ensuring statutory compliance and industry standards.
  • Lead and manage the engineering team and specialist service providers, including regular performance reviews, task delegation, and productivity monitoring.
  • Monitor and optimise the use of Building Management Systems (BMS) and CAFM to improve service performance and reporting, and mitigate downtime.
  • Conduct regular inspections of plant and equipment, identifying performance issues, scheduling remedials and implementing preventative solutions.
  • Maintain health and safety compliance across all maintenance activities, including contractor management and emergency response procedures.
  • Plan, coordinate and monitor contractor works, maintaining strict quality controls, professional standards, technical and timely delivery.
  • Respond to out-of-hours emergencies, troubleshoot plant and system failures, and implement effective solutions to minimise operational impact.
  • Support energy efficiency initiatives and contribute to the decarbonisation of the estate through innovative technologies and practices.
  • Maintain accurate records and provide regular reports on asset management, risks, and costs.

Person Specification

  • A recognised higher-level qualification in relevant engineering, building services, or a related technical discipline.
  • Significant experience managing building services within a large or complex organisation.
  • Proven track record of delivering service improvements and meeting contractual targets, maintenance schedules, and KPIs.
  • Strong technical knowledge of building services, including HVAC, electrical, plumbing, and fire systems.
  • Proficiency in using Building Management Systems (BMS), CAFM, and other relevant software applications.
  • Demonstrated experience in asset management, budget control, and leading engineering teams and contractors.
  • Sound understanding of health and safety legislation, compliance requirements, and industry best practices.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to lead teams, write reports, and present technical data clearly.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with a proactive and collaborative approach to service delivery.
