Good News Church, Whaley Bridge, Derbyshire is seeking to appoint a part time youth worker to work with 10-18s. We are a small church with a big heart for young people and for being a Christian witness in our community. The role involves working within existing activities with a team of volunteers and working with others to develop the youth work. We are seeking someone who has strong Christian faith and feels a call to work with young people. We are open to the successful candidate being involved in other areas of church life, depending on their skills and interests, as well as the needs and priorities of the church.

Responsibilities:

  • To work alongside others in leading current youth drop-ins and events and to facilitate and equip the team.
  • To build further Christian outreach to youth in Whaley Bridge and the surrounding area, through different initiatives as agreed with the leadership team, such as mentoring local young people and seeking to build community/school links.
  • To worship with the Good News Church family, especially youth and young adults; the expectation is that the post holder will join GNC for Sunday worship at least twice a month and be part of the church family.
  • To disciple youth connected with Good News Church.

We seek someone who can demonstrate:

  • A deep love for God, his Word and his people.
  • A passion for working with young people, building relationships, and sharing the hope of the gospel.
  • A desire to reach and disciple young people.
  • An ability to work well with others, contribute to the life of the church family, and take initiative.
  • Strong organisational skills and the ability to work within the church’s structures.

The ideal candidate will either have completed appropriate training to become a youth worker or be in the process of undertaking such training and must have the right to work in the UK.

Location: Whaley Bridge, High Peak, Derbyshire.

Hours: 12 hours a week, including evenings/weekends.

Salary: between £7500 and £9000 pa depending on qualifications and experience (based on a £25,000 to £30,000 full time equivalent salary for a 40 hr week).

Contract: Fixed term of 24 months.

In accordance with the Equality Act 2010 there is a genuine occupational requirement that the post-holder is an evangelical Christian and happy to work under our basis of faith. The appointment is subject to pre-appointment checks, including a satisfactory Enhanced DBS disclosure and safer recruitment process/references.
