We are a legal campaigning organisation with a multi‑skilled team of lawyers that represents clients in numerous legal cases funded by Good Law Project (GLP), guides GLP with respect to its participation in and funding of other legal cases, and works with GLP colleagues to manage risks associated with campaigning.
The Legal Operations Manager role is a critical role designed to straddle the Legal and Finance teams. Acting as a “translator” between the two functions, and as a reviewer, the position partners with, but predominantly relieves, senior leadership of administrative bottlenecks by integrating operational financial oversight, information gathering and management, systems management, and regulatory compliance into the heart of the legal team.
Culture & Character
This role requires more than just technical precision; it relies on a genuine affinity for GLP’s unique identity as a campaigner, legal funder, and solicitor. GLP’s various roles create important nuance and complexity, so we are looking for a candidate who approaches the role with curiosity and the humility needed to learn how GLP works best, and who is keen to get under the bonnet of how we operate and understand how our work is driven by impact, not profit. This is a role for a “hit‑the‑ground‑running” professional who is keen to learn and who is comfortable navigating a fast‑paced, mission‑led environment. We need someone who is naturally inquisitive and proactive, bringing a structured, “commercially minded” toolkit to the team while remaining deeply committed to social justice, transparency, and the unique challenges of the non‑profit sector.
Responsibilities
- Act as translator and liaison between the Legal and Finance teams.
- Review and relieve senior leadership of administrative bottlenecks.
- Integrate operational financial oversight, information gathering and management, systems management, and regulatory compliance into the legal team.
Qualifications
- Commercially minded professional with at least 3 years of experience in Legal Operations, Legal Practice Management, or a related or equivalent field.
- Technical proficiency to gather, analyse and interpret complex data, and the soft skills required to communicate clearly navigating GLP’s unique mission‑driven environment as a fundraising campaigner, funder, and solicitor.
- Advanced Excel/data management skills with demonstrated experience in financial estimating and modelling, budget tracking, and management of legal spend, and an aptitude and curiosity to explore how AI can support legal operations within GLP.
- Prior exposure to SRA compliance, KYC onboarding, and AML frameworks (good understanding of the regulatory environment, even if they have not formally held an MLRO title).
