This role is about making sure that relevance is heard. In the role, you\’ll lead our external and internal communications, ensuring the Good Energy brand stands out in the media, resonates with customers, and earns the trust of stakeholders. You\’ll own our brand reputation, navigating the challenges of a highly regulated industry while keeping our unique purpose at the forefront.

You\’ll also play a crucial role in shaping internal communications, engaging our growing team, aligning them with our mission, and ensuring everyone feels connected to the exciting journey we\’re on.

Responsibilities:

  • Strategic communications: Lead the development of a clear, goal-driven communications strategy that speaks to both internal and external audiences. Shape messaging that reflects the full scope of the business and deliver communications that bring Good Energy\’s strategy to life, clearly, consistently, and with impact.
  • Brand development: Discover, create, and amplify compelling stories that grow awareness and engagement with our brand, reaching both consumer and business audiences, now and in the future. You\’ll bring to life topics like greenwashing, solar, heat pumps, and clean energy in ways that resonate and connect people with our mission and services.
  • Campaign planning: Develop and deliver impactful communications for both local and national PR campaigns, ensuring Good Energy is in the forefront of customers minds and firmly in the public conversation.
  • Media relations: Lead our press office and manage all media relationships to boost visibility, drive engagement, and strengthen awareness of the Good Energy brand.
  • Internal communications: Design and evolve our internal communications strategy, maintaining Good Energy\’s clear, inclusive, and open approach that supports our strong workplace culture.
  • Reputational risk management: Work closely with teams across the business to anticipate and prepare for potential reputational risks, taking the lead on all crisis communication efforts when needed.
  • Policy influencing: Partner with our policy and regulatory team to amplify Good Energy\’s policy priorities in the media, ensuring they align with campaign strategies and contribute to our brand\’s growth.

What you\’ll need to succeed

We\’re seeking an communications leader with a proven track record in strategic delivery, ideally with experience of building and defending a disruptive brand. With experience in leading bold, impactful PR campaigns, you will know how to craft messages that connect with both consumer and business audiences.

As a natural storyteller, you\’ll bring creativity and clarity to every narrative. You\’ll be confident in working with senior leaders and external experts, and thrive in fast-paced, high-growth environments. Above all, you\’ll be purpose-driven, energised by the mission of a cleaner, greener future and skilled at communicating it with authenticity and impact.

  • Brand PR – Skilled in planning and executing PR campaigns that build brand awareness.
  • Consumer and business – Experience creating strategies that engage both consumer and business audiences.
  • Creativity – A creative thinker who can craft compelling stories and find the best ways to tell them.
  • Stakeholder management – Confident working with a wide range of stakeholders, including senior leaders and industry experts.

Desirables:

  • Internal communications – Good Energy has a strong internal communications function meaning prior leadership of or input into a similar sized organisations internal communications strategy is not essential, but experience will be a plus.
  • Energy knowledge – energy is a complex industry, and the successful individual will be tasked with communicating technical subjects, so some knowledge or experience of it will be preferable. Some understanding of the energy policy landscape will stand you in good stead.
  • Agency experience – demonstrable experience in agency or consultancy where you have worked on campaigns for a breadth of consumer or business brands will be a benefit.
