We\’re looking for a passionate and skilled and adaptable 3rd Line Infrastructure Engineer to join our team. Acting as a subject matter expert, you\’ll play a key role in maintaining and improving Good Energy\’s IT estate, helping to shape an integrated IT operating model across our group of companies.
In this hands-on role, you\’ll support a wide range of tasks, from managing escalations and configuring SaaS products, to improving patch management and maintaining our on-premise environment. You\’ll collaborate closely with specialists across networking, databases, and Microsoft technologies, ensuring a smooth and secure IT experience for the business.
Responsibilities:

  • Core infrastructure support: Configure and support key infrastructure components, including Active Directory/Entra ID, Endpoint Manager, Exchange, MDM, Mimecast, and other security tools.
  • Microsoft 365 environment: Improvement and expansion of our Microsoft 365 infrastructure, with a focus on security and usability.
  • On-Premise maintenance : Maintain and enhance the on-premise infrastructure, including VMs, patching, backups, and storage management.
  • Change & governance: Deliver IT changes with a strong focus on usability, security, risk appetite, and governance.
  • Service decommissioning: Decommission outdated systems in collaboration with the Compliance team, ensuring data security and policy alignment.
  • Service uptime & user experience: Monitor and optimise the uptime and quality of user experience across all infrastructure services.
  • Projects & continuous improvement: Support new projects, service renewals, and ongoing infrastructure improvements.
  • Team collaboration: Work closely with the wider IT team to support shared goals and cross-functional initiatives.
  • Physical Infrastructure support: Assist with server racking and patching (reasonable adjustments can be made to support candidates).
  • Communication & stakeholder engagement: Communicate effectively with both internal teams and external stakeholders.
  • Capability & risk management: Help build team capability, manage relevant business risk, and support the delivery of high performance.

What you\’ll need to succeed

As a driven and confident Engineer, you\’ll work independently, enjoy learning, and take pride in delivering practical, secure, and efficient solutions. You\’ll also comfortable engaging directly with end users to resolve issues and improve experiences.
Essentials:

  • Hands-on experience or qualification in IT administration, especially in infrastructure implementation, operation, or optimisation.
  • Previous experience in roles such as 3rd Line Engineer or Office 365 Administrator, with broad exposure to IT systems and tools.
  • Deep knowledge of Microsoft Office 365, including configuration, policies, automation, and security (Defender ATP)
  • Confident administering Entra ID, Group Policy, Exchange (On-Prem/Online), PowerShell, IPSec, patching, and VPN configuration
  • A proactive mindset-ready to dive in, understand existing systems, and drive improvements
  • A team player who shares knowledge and supports the wider IT function
  • Comfortable working hybrid, with team office days on Wednesdays and increased presence during probation or as needed
  • Confident handling escalations and communicating directly with users to resolve issues effectively

Desirables:

  • Knowledge of: Windows Server, VMWare, Nutanix, Arctic Wolf, Unitrends
  • Familiarity with ITIL and Microsoft certification pathways
  • App support or exposure to compliance and information governance in regulated environments
  • Experience with server room migrations, firewalls (e.g., Juniper), Watchguard, Cisco, Meraki, SFTP, and security best practices
  • Understanding of data and cyber security principles
  • Experience using Power Platform, participating in BCP/DR planning, or working with VOIP/Teams Direct Routing
  • Exposure to Azure, AWS, ADO, or database administration
