We have an exciting opportunity for a driven and technically minded Trader to join our Energy Optimisation team during a significant period of growth. As we accelerate our ambitious expansion plans for 2026 and beyond, this role will play a pivotal part in managing our wholesale market presence and ensuring the robust delivery of 100% renewable energy to our customers.
The Energy Optimisation team sits at the heart of our commercial success, taking full ownership of pricing, forecasting, hedging, and trading. This team is instrumental in protecting and delivering the company's gross margin, working in close collaboration with our Commercial teams to manage volume and price risk from the initial contract through to final settlement.
As a Trader, you will be the primary lead on enacting shortâterm trades and managing wholesale market interactions across power, gas, and certificates. We are looking for someone who can expertly balance our positions in line with risk policy while evolving our counterpart relationships to ensure they align with our core mission. The ideal candidate will excel at managing complex market risks and will be passionate about the financial strategies that empower a cleaner, greener future.
Responsibilities- Trading & Risk Management: Act as the dayâtoâday lead for all prompt Power and Gas trading, managing physical positions in strict adherence to risk policy. You will develop and execute risk mitigation strategies, including weather derivatives, frontâback swaps, and winter length to protect the business and optimise prompt P&L. This role includes participating in a weekend auction rotation.
- Certificates & Audits: Take full ownership of the procurement and management of certificates (ROCs, REGOs, Green Gas, and Carbon Offsets) to meet both internal and external requirements. You will lead the certificate audit process, ensuring all submissions are accurate and timely.
- Planning & Performance: Drive business growth by identifying and implementing innovative trading strategies for new and existing portfolios. You will lead the development of market analysis tools and support the "Head of" by delivering highâquality performance reporting and ad hoc analytical insights.
- Market Insights & Influence: Serve as the subject matter expert for market updates, educating colleagues across Finance, Sales, and PPA teams. You will play a key role in informing senior management of market developments and risks, ensuring all activities align with wider commercial goals.
- Settlements & Relationships: Oversee the settlement process by collaborating regularly with Finance to ensure counterparty invoices are complete and accurate. You will proactively manage and develop professional relationships with counterparties to ensure seamless operational delivery.
- Team Support & Leadership: Support the Senior Trader by deputising in internal and external meetings and creating supporting materials. You will drive continuous improvement across team processes, fostering a culture of accuracy and innovation to enhance overall performance.
Youâll bring a solid understanding of the wholesale energy market and experience managing prompt positions, alongside the analytical precision required to communicate complex data clearly. A proactive problemâsolver with a passion for trading, youâll be eager to develop your skills and foster innovation within a fastâpaced environment.

Our office is based in Chippenham, Wiltshire. For this role, weâre looking for candidates who can come into our Chippenham office, once a week. We offer both formal and informal flexible working options. Fullâtime hours are 37.5 per week, Monday to Friday.
