We are seeking an ambitious and commercially driven Business Development Manager – Wholesale to accelerate growth across key regional on-trade and independent wholesale customers, while building strategic relationships with national wholesale partners. This is a highly visible, autonomous role with significant opportunity to shape commercial success across a critical territory.

The Role

Reporting into the Sales Director & Head of On-Trade, you will be responsible for driving sales growth and distribution across:

  • Regional on-trade groups
  • Independent on-trade accounts
  • Regional wholesalers
  • National wholesale partners including businesses

You will identify new commercial opportunities, strengthen strategic partnerships, and ensure our portfolio is effectively activated and championed throughout the route-to-market. This is a home-based field role requiring regular travel across the territory.

Key Responsibilities

  • Build and develop strong commercial relationships with regional and national wholesale customers
  • Identify and convert new business opportunities across independent and regional on-trade channels
  • Deliver sustainable volume and value growth across wines and spirits
  • Lead commercial negotiations and annual business planning
  • Work closely with wholesaler field sales teams to drive distribution and brand advocacy
  • Deliver training, tastings, and commercial activation initiatives
  • Support customer-facing events and regional trade engagement
  • Partner with marketing, brand, customer marketing, and national account teams
  • Execute regional activations aligned to brand strategy
  • Deliver accurate forecasting and pipeline reporting
  • Monitor KPIs and performance against targets
  • Provide regular territory and account reviews

About You

We’re looking for a commercially astute drinks professional with a strong track record of developing wholesale and on-trade business. You will have a combination of the following:

  • Proven B2B sales experience within wines & spirits
  • Experience managing regional wholesalers and/or national wholesale groups
  • Strong understanding of UK route-to-market structures
  • Excellent commercial negotiation skills
  • Demonstrable success delivering sales growth
  • Full UK driving licence
  • Existing relationships with wholesale groups and regional drinks buyers
  • Strong on-trade network
  • WSET Level 3 (or equivalent)
  • Entrepreneurial and self-motivated
  • Highly organised and strategic
  • Strong relationship builder
  • Commercially analytical
