We work with a varied client base, from individual landowners through to market-leading developers, delivering technically challenging and exciting projects across the UK.
Due to continued growth, we're looking for an enthusiastic and ambitious Senior Flood Risk Consultant to join our team.
The Role
This is an excellent opportunity for someone with around 4-6 years' relevant consultancy experience who is ready to take greater ownership of projects, develop client relationships and support the development of junior colleagues.
You'll take responsibility for the management and delivery of your own portfolio of flood risk projects, supported by the senior management team and a dedicated mentor/line manager.
You'll have a strong practical understanding of flood risk assessment within the UK planning system and will be confident working with relevant planning policy, regulatory requirements, technical guidance and consultation processes.
Although predominantly desk-based, the role will also involve site work across the UK, including occasional periods away from home. You'll also contribute to the wider development of the business through project planning, quality assurance, training and supporting new business opportunities.
What You'll Be Doing

Preparing Flood Risk Assessments and supporting projects through planning and regulatory consultation processes.
Managing project programmes, budgets, resources and client communications.
Coordinating and reviewing technical work produced by junior team members.
Providing guidance, training and support to junior colleagues.
Liaising directly with clients, project teams, regulators and other stakeholders.
Supporting technical work including hydraulic flood modelling, drainage design, fieldwork and AutoCAD/GIS-based drawings, where appropriate to your experience.
Contributing to quality assurance, resource planning and the continued development of the business.
Supporting colleagues with identifying new business, clients and opportunities.
Undertaking site visits and fieldwork, including occasional travel and overnight stays across the UK.
Inputting to technical elements of Environmental Impact Assessments
What You'll Bring
A minimum 2:1 degree in a relevant subject.
Proven experience in Flood Risk Assessment with a strong understanding of planning policy, regulatory requirements and technical guidance.
Project management experience, including managing deadlines, budgets, resources and client communication.
Experience independently delivering projects, with support from peers as required.
Experience reviewing and coordinating technical inputs from junior colleagues.
Excellent report-writing skills and strong written and verbal communication.
Strong numerical and analytical abilities.
Proficiency in Microsoft Office.
A full UK driving licence.
Eligibility to work in the UK.
The ability to work independently and spend occasional periods away from home.
Based within a commutable distance of Edinburgh.
Experience with flood modelling and/or hydrological modelling software.
Confident with the use of GIS and/or AutoCAD.
Desirable Experience
Experience in any of the following would be advantageous:
Drainage and SuDS design.
4x4 or off-road driving.
Fieldwork or outdoor-based activities.
A relevant Master's degree.
Access to your own vehicle.
What You'll Receive:
£37,500 - £47,500 salary, negotiable depending on suitability and experience.
Flexible approach to working location and hours.
35 days' holiday plus 9 public holidays.
Employer life assurance.
Employer private healthcare.
Employer pension scheme.
Paid team-building events and excursions.
Annual membership paid for your chosen professional accreditation body.
Salary review every six months.
Full support and mentoring towards Chartership, including professional membership fees.
Discretionary Annual Bonus based on Company Performance.
Your Development
You'll be supported by an experienced management team who are Chartered Members of their respective professional bodies. Gondolin is committed to supporting your professional development and will provide mentoring and financial support as you work towards Chartership in your chosen discipline.
The successful candidate will complete a four-month probationary period, after which they will be enrolled onto the relevant employer benefit schemes.
Where You'll Work
The main office is based in Leith, Edinburgh. The role offers flexibility to work from home for an agreed number of days each week, with the expectation that you'll typically spend at least 3 days per week in the Edinburgh office.
