About the team: You’ll be part of a small, friendly team focused on waste and cleansing public engagement, with the opportunity to work flexibly in a hybrid role and access a range of council-wide benefits.

About the Role: We’re looking for a proactive and creative Engagement and Behaviour Change Officer to join Nottingham City Council’s Waste and Cleansing Service on a fixed-term maternity cover. This is a great opportunity to shape how we work with residents and businesses to reduce waste, improve recycling, and keep Nottingham clean.

What you’ll be doing:

  • Lead the planning and delivery of engagement campaigns that encourage positive behaviour change across the city.
  • Your work will help improve recycling rates, reduce contamination, and tackle environmental issues such as littering and fly‑tipping.
  • Design and deliver creative campaigns that engage and educate the public and promote correct recycling and waste disposal behaviour.
  • Lead targeted campaigns linked to local priorities and national initiatives.
  • Make it easier for people to recycle more and waste less.
  • Work closely with residents, businesses and community groups.
  • Create engaging content for digital, social media and offline channels.
  • Measure what works, using insight and data to improve future campaigns.
  • Build strong relationships with teams across the Council and external partners to maximise impact.

About You: We’re looking for someone who can connect with people and turn ideas into meaningful action. You’ll bring:

  • Experience of engagement, campaigns, or behaviour change work, particularly in a public‑facing realm.
  • Experience creating communications and engagement tools (online and offline).
  • A good understanding of how behaviour change happens in practice.
  • Experience evaluating campaigns or programmes and using insight to improve delivery.
  • Strong digital skills including social media and standard IT packages.
