We've got an exciting opportunity available for talented individuals to join our workforce. Working for Nottingham City Council has great benefits, including competitive pay, great leave entitlement and access to a generous pension scheme. We strive to create an innovative, inclusive and progressive work culture where everyone is supported to do and be their very best.
About the Role
Are you passionate about using data to make a real difference? We are looking for a proactive and analytical District Heating Business Intelligence Officer to help shape the future of Nottingham's district heating service. This is an exciting opportunity to play a key role in turning complex operational, customer, financial and technical data into clear insight that supports better decision-making, improved service delivery and more efficient use of energy across the district heat network.
You will work with colleagues across Enviroenergy, Finance and wider stakeholder teams to identify trends, solve problems, improve billing accuracy, support debt reduction and help drive performance improvements across the service. The role will suit someone who has excellent Excel skills, enjoys working with data, systems and people - someone who can interrogate information, spot patterns, present findings clearly and translate analysis into practical recommendations.
Your work will help inform decisions that directly affect residents, businesses and the wider city. If you are comfortable working with large datasets, confident using tools such as Excel and data reporting systems, and motivated by the opportunity to support innovation, service improvement and the Council's wider environmental ambitions, we would love to hear from you.
About You
The ideal candidate will have:
- Qualifications or equivalent experience in data analysis, business intelligence, finance, performance reporting, data science, or a related discipline, with evidence of continued professional development and confidence working with complex information.
- Strong experience of analysing and interpreting large datasets, including extracting, cleansing, matching and validating data from different systems to identify trends, risks, anomalies and opportunities for service improvement.
- Advanced Microsoft Excel and reporting skills, with the ability to use formulas, pivot tables, lookups, data validation and visual reporting tools to produce accurate, meaningful and accessible performance, billing and financial reports.
- Good knowledge of financial processes, billing, reconciliation and data quality, ideally within a customer service, utilities, local authority, energy, housing or commercial environment, with an understanding of the importance of accuracy, auditability and confidentiality.
- Excellent communication and stakeholder engagement skills, with the ability to translate technical or complex data into clear insight, reports and recommendations for managers, colleagues, finance teams and external partners.
- A proactive, curious and improvement-focused approach, with the confidence to identify problems, challenge data inconsistencies, suggest better ways of working, support change and use evidence to help improve customer outcomes and operational performance.
This post is covered by the statutory duty under Part 7 of the Immigration Act (2016) (English Language Requirement for public sector workers) and therefore the ability to speak fluent English is an essential requirement for the role.
At Nottingham City Council we believe that work is what you do, not where you do it. We offer different working arrangements, depending on the role, including hybrid working.
