The Portfolio Management Group (PMG) is a multi‑asset‑class investing group that sits within the Private Wealth Management division at Goldman Sachs. PMG specializes in the discretionary management of portfolios across traditional and alternative asset classes and provides outsourced CIO services to private clients as well as select institutions. The team leverages and combines the independent strategic and tactical asset‑allocation framework of the Investment Strategy Group (ISG) of Private Wealth Management, a rigorous investment process.
The successful candidate will be a valued member of the investment team of PMG, responsible for the management and construction of multi‑asset‑class portfolios in line with PMG's investment philosophy, client guidelines and regulatory constraints. The candidate will bring strong quantitative analysis capabilities and a genuine passion for multi‑asset investing to help drive evidence‑based portfolio decisions.
- Exercise leadership qualities and judgment, with the expectation of being able to perform key portfolio‑management responsibilities within a few months of joining the team.
- Portfolio design, construction and oversight, involving strategic asset‑allocation research and analytics, investment manager/vehicle selection and oversight, risk/performance management and evaluation.
- Develop customized client portfolios, which includes running portfolio optimizations, investment manager/vehicle selection and due diligence analytics, and quantitative research on investment‑management products across asset classes.
- Contribute to the portfolio‑construction and active risk‑allocation framework for multi‑asset portfolios to improve existing investment and decision‑making processes, leveraging quantitative analysis, factor‑based research and systematic portfolio‑construction techniques.
- Conduct asset‑allocation research and analytics to inform positioning across multi‑asset portfolios, and contribute to the ongoing development of manager‑selection frameworks and portfolio‑construction methodologies.
- Work closely with experts from the Investment Strategy Group to review and optimize asset allocations and with the External Investing Group to select and review investment managers, leveraging the existing expertise and resources of the firm.
- Build and maintain quantitative tools and models using Python to support portfolio risk and return analytics, risk decomposition, scenario analysis and investment‑research workflows.
- Communicate and develop materials for clients and prospects including investment‑related analysis, client and prospect presentations and responses for client Request for Proposals (RFP).
- Contribute to client review activity and new business development across EMEA.
Requirements:
- 5+ years of work experience in a similar portfolio‑management role, with demonstrable experience in multi‑asset investing or research and quantitative portfolio analysis.
- Must have region‑specific qualifications: CISI Level 4 (London) or equivalent IMC & CFA Level 1.
- Strong interest in the financial markets and good investment sense/commercial instinct, with a solid grounding in quantitative analysis, asset‑allocation theory and portfolio‑construction principles.
- Proficiency in Python for data analysis; familiarity with relevant libraries (e.g., pandas, NumPy, scipy) is highly valued.
- Experience with manager‑selection research and analytics, including quantitative evaluation of investment strategies across traditional and alternative asset classes.
- Strong organizational skills; the ability to deliver on tight deadlines, multi‑task in a fast‑paced environment and think clearly under pressure will be key to success.
- Self‑motivated and able to work in an autonomous, yet collaborative environment.
- Commitment to excellence, a high level of integrity.
- Proficiency with Bloomberg, Refinitiv/Datastream, Morningstar Direct, or similar systems.
- Knowledge of Microsoft Office and artificial‑intelligence software (ChatGPT, Claude, Excel, PowerPoint).
