About the role
We’re looking for a hands‑on senior engineer to lead the design, automation, and operation of our cloud runtime platforms that power Marcus Deposits. You’ll set standards for infrastructure‑as‑code, CI/CD, observability, and operational excellence; drive reliability programs (SLOs/error budgets, incident response, post‑incident learning); and mentor engineers while partnering with application teams, Tech Risk, and vendor platforms to deliver resilient, secure, and cost‑efficient services at scale.
What You Will Do
- Design, build, and operate AWS infrastructure (EC2, VPC, IAM, RDS, Lambda/ECS/EKS) using CloudFormation (preferred) and AWS CDK with modular, reusable patterns and guardrails.
- Own CI/CD for platform and apps (GitLab CI/Jenkins/GitHub Actions/AWS CodePipeline), enabling progressive delivery (blue/green, canary) and automated quality gates.
- Lead observability: define and evolve metrics, logs, traces, synthetics—Datadog, Prometheus, Grafana, Splunk, CloudWatch—and drive actionable alerting, runbooks, and SLOs.
- Engineer for reliability: champion SRE practices, manage on‑call rotations (e.g., PagerDuty), reduce MTTR with automation, and facilitate blameless post‑incident reviews.
- Automate everything: eliminate toil with scripting, codify ops playbooks, and integrate policy‑as‑code for security and compliance.
- Strengthen security & resiliency: implement secrets management, network segmentation and firewall policies, and partner with Tech Risk on standards and control evidence.
- Optimize cost & performance: right‑size compute/storage, tune autoscaling, and collaborate with service owners to meet latency and availability targets.
- Mentor and influence: coach engineers, review designs, and drive adoption of best practices across Dev, Runtime, and vendor teams.
- Ecosystem integration (as relevant to teams): support Kafka‑based eventing and MongoDB‑backed services; improve service readiness for microservices at scale.
Basic Qualifications
- 5+ years in DevOps/SRE/Platform Engineering with production AWS experience.
- Expert with CloudFormation (preferred) and AWS CDK; deep Linux fundamentals and shell scripting.
- CI/CD implementation and troubleshooting (GitLab CI, Jenkins, GitHub Actions, or CodePipeline).
- Containers and orchestration (Docker, EKS/ECS); progressive delivery strategies.
- Expertise in TypeScript for automation.
- Strong networking and security expertise (VPC design, routing, security groups, firewalls, IAM policies).
- Experience architecting highly available, scalable, and secure AWS solutions, including multi‑account and multi‑region architectures where appropriate.
- Demonstrated leadership in incident response, post‑incident improvement, and cross‑team technical influence.
- Clear, concise communication with the ability to translate platform constraints into product‑aligned decisions.
- Relevant AWS certification required (e.g., AWS DevOps Engineer, AWS Solutions Architect).
Preferred Qualifications
- GitOps (Argo CD/Flux) and service mesh fundamentals; APM/RUM (Dynatrace/New Relic).
- Operating Kafka and MongoDB in production; experience with microservices & distributed systems.
- Operating in regulated environments (financial services), with evidence practices for audits and control adoption.
- PagerDuty administration and on‑call program improvements; cost governance/FinOps exposure.
- Proficiency in Python (or Bash/Go) for automation.
- Observability stacks (CloudWatch, Prometheus/Grafana, Splunk/ELK, Datadog) and data‑driven alerting.
